Opponent has just killed a creature in rank 1. This now moves a creature from rank 2 into that location which has breach ability to force 2 card discard.

Does opponent discard 2 cards after drawing their new hand, or discard 2 of the cards he is getting ready to discard anyway?

I thought I read somewhere the later...

I think so, Brain, but if we have nothing to fear but fear itself, why does Eleanor Roosevelt wear that spooky mask?

Indeed, the latter.

Yup, the latter it is. Breach effects are resolved before you discard your remaining hand cards and draw a new hand of 6 (that's always the final step of the turn order).

So, as a result, the person to have defeated the monster essentially avoids the ill-effects since they were going to discard anyhow. And everyone else takes a hit? Thanks!

Hmmm this breach effect seems pretty pointless then...

Not really...if you defeat a monster and cause the breach effect, you also hurt your opponents. Not so harmless.
