Whoa, only 6 Schizoid cards? This is going to work differently than we expected...
And the Horde tokens look like rubber ducks. I am amused...
Pretty short list of alien designers this time around. I think we can rule out huge swathes of known homebrews appearing in this one.

I figured that the Horde alien was going to be a Hive-type alien that generates extra ships. And yeah six Schizoid cards seems low, but we'll have to see how they wrote the power.
I'm also really glad they added that new Cosmic Quakes rule! Sarcasm aside, I'm excited for the new deck. With 24 extra cards and 16 flares, those large group decks are going to be awesomely huge. I'm also highly tempted to add all the extra cards for all my games, but we'll see what the makeup is.
Overall, looks like another pretty good value expansion!

I'm just trying to get over them having the Saboteur tokens in the montage in the back of the rules.

Seriously, though, there are a few new ones in there. Maybe the crystally-thing in the back is Gorgon? Or Crystal?

Perhaps the Schizoid cards are just numbered 1-6, and are for the number of foreign colonies needed? With the other condition remaining relatively free-form, as it was in previous editions.
I'm happy about 24 extra cards for large games. That takes care of three players' starting hands, so an 8-player game won't feel thin on cards at all. So a 10-player game should work without worrying about the deck, hehe. Anyway, I'm not expecting any new cards out of these 24, just more of the same to pad it out a bit.

Is there really no new module like technology to add? I guess I can't complain about 20 aliens, but it's a bit disappointing to not get a new variant too. I guess some people might be excited by the large group cards.

Well there is the Team Rules, but yeah nothing like Lucre, Moons or Prisoners. There's still two more expansions to go, so I wouldn't be worried.

The Team rules sound pretty interesting. Unfortunately, I have trouble getting 3-4 players together to play. I don't know when I'll ever get 5+.

At least two more. I'm pretty sure that if we keep buying them, and we keep creating stuff, they'll keep publishing expansions.
The next expansion should be really interesting -- if there's no new player color, as I suspect, then what else goes into the box instead? Not Lucre, we know that. But Moons? I can see that.
Anyway, they talk about aliens referring to the unused flare deck. Anyone remember off the top of their heads which old Eon aliens draw from that?

That's my hope ... and my fear. Aristocrat is not an easy port.

What would be the point of the cards, then? If you have to grab a pencil and write down the other condition, do you really want them wasting half a dozen card slots so you don't also have to write a single-digit number before setting down the pencil?

I dunno, I was just speculating. Odds are high they're doing something we haven't thought of yet. We'll find out in a couple of weeks, I guess.

So I can definitely see Crystal in the background, which makes me wonder if Magnet made it also.
There are 3 mystery aliens in that picture; the monkey thing on the bottom right with the snake staff, the mantis looking guy in the cloak with the psionic sword thing, and the strange thing above the monkey that has diodes and electricity on its back.
I have a very strong feeling the flying thing with the diodes is the Magnet.
And what's up with rubber duckey Horde tokens!?

Oh, and another interesting thing: The Rules says:
Quote: Note: Some alien powers refer to the unused flare deck. All flares returned to the box form the unused flare deck. Aristocrat, maybe?

Holy mackerel! I totally missed this - just skimmed that stuff. This is great news! Although ambivalent about Lucre, I'm a huge fan of the idea of Extortionist. I remember using an image of Jabba the Hutt for my home-expanded AH set. I might have at one time considered how to de-Lucrize it... it will be great if FFG managed to successfully do that. Awesome!
I also like Crystal, and look forward to seeing it.

I used to think Crystal was mostly pointless, until I started treating the alliance mechanic with more forethought.
Now, forcing players to commit 4 ships is incredibly useful

Exactly. Gerald Katz made the same discovery a long, long time ago when he was forced to play Crystal at a convention (or something like that, see his Power of the Day about it). Then he realized how potentially strong Crystal is. "Potentially" being a key word, i.e. it's largely weak but it can pack a punch at an (in)opportune time.

That's one of the things I love about this game. There are quite a few aliens that make you scratch your head at first. Then, during games, you have the Dave Bowman moment and it all makes sense...

For instance, I've been bashing on alt-win aliens recently, but just last week I watched Kweku just about steamroll us all with the Genius alt-win despite our best efforts to stop him. It was impressive; he only failed because he made one mistake at the very end (not counting his opponent's cards in hand before laying down a Negotiate). Just goes to show that most aliens thrive in the hands of the right player.

I...might have said that, yeah.

I don't think Crystal is going to do what it used to do before, because that has nothing to do with "splitting your vision" at all. Perhaps they are heavily tweaking this power.
I for one sure hope they do, and also with Magnet as well.
