My group will be playing Defend the Manor House next. I have read elsewhere in this forum that this scenaro favors the zombie player and that it is kind of a downer that the heroes have to leave the manor to actually defend it, so it doesn't give that 'Night of the Living Dead' feeling.

Obviously players have been using additional dot rules to play the scenario. I was thinking Manor Deck, Barricades and Zombie Horde.

I would like feedback on which you all think are the best options before we play this game again. I would like to give my friends an awesome play experience.

Barricades make for a great manor house scenario. This is actually my favorite scenario when playing as a hero. By using zombie hunger you can manipulate the zombies easily while the others build barricades and search for weapons. Manor deck helps the heroes a lot but i usually don't like to play with it. it's more fun to have to abandon the home base to do some searching and come back and blast 5 zombies at once with some dynamite!!

Yes, my friends always bitch at me when I play zombies because I always win at this scenario. Basically, Zombies autospawn and you just b line it to the manor house.

Heroes will lose if they stay in the house and fight, they need to be out there killing. Once the Zombies are in the house it is much more difficult to get them out than it is to keep them out, in my opinion anyway. Time wasted in the house fighting is more time wasted as more zombies close in.

Played twice tonight for first time and heroes lost both. No expansions used. Generally agreed as very hard for the heroes. It seemed like the heroes needed time to equip before the horde arrives, but never got the search cards they needed to rush back and actually defend the manor. The zombies can mount up quick. Maybe just give them 3 per turn including the first/setup turn?
Actually I wonder has anyone won with standard rules and setup?

Depends how you play. When you that a Zombie 'has' to move to a square occupied by a hero when they're next to one, it's not that hard to kite Zombies away from the manor.
Also shotguns, explosives and fire extinguishers hurt more when you're all bunched up together.

Tried again last night with normal rules, no changes, and the heroes lost on the last turn, by losing their third and fourth heroes.
So obviously it is possible to win with the heroes, but you will need some luck, both on the dice and with the cards.
Last night we found guns and gas instead of keys and bats. Sadly the zombies kept throwing 6s.

In my gaming group, the scenario has been won by the heroes several times. In the beginning we lost, but after 100+ plays (not only of this scenario obviously,) the heroes - like in all the base game scenarios - have the upper hand.

Note: We do play with the hero and zombie cards from SotF, GW, HP1 and the three web expansions though. But I actually think those cards overall tip the favor slightly to the zombies.
