The more i play this game the more i grow to love it. It seems so simple and random at first but the minimal setup hides a game with so many possibilities. Having each players abilities alter the rules of the very game is genius.

Absolutely.
I've heard it said that there are basically three levels of CE play - initially you play your Alien Powers, bouncing off each other around the table. Then, you start playing your hand. Finally you start playing your players.
Cosmic is anything but random. All of the important decisions in the game are firmly under control, and the better players will always do well.

I would say that the randomness lies most in the circumstances, and less in the actual outcomes. The challenge is determining whether those circumstances have changed, and how that effects you.

I think that's fair, and illustrates where elements of bluff and subterfuge can come into play - you can easily find yourself in situations where you can win an encounter unexpectedly, since they underestimated your power level, or overestimated their own. Ultimately, Cosmic is a game about the players, and how they best use their randomly-determined circumstances to achieve their goals.

The bluffing can be pretty open-ended, too. With well over 300 different card effects in the official gameplay universe, nobody can really know them all (and even if they did, there's no way to know for sure what's in the deck, unless you make sure everyone knows what all the starting flares do; but we prefer the mystery of not knowing every effect in the deck).
This means you can sometimes make a vague threat about having a vengeance effect or buddy-reward effect in your hand, and most players wouldn't be able to say for sure that you're bluffing.
Slide a card partway up from your hand (without exposing it), say "I wouldn't do that if I were you", and see what happens.

If you want a good example of meta-gaming in CE check out Kamikaze in PBF 6. He is "workin' it".

Then you start homebrewing stuff to add to your set!

I've held onto an extra deck of cards to actually homebrew some stuff after FFG has finished with expansions. I don't really want to create an alien just to see it get released later on.

Finished....with...expansions? Bite your tongue!! FFG has to beat Eon's record of 9 expansions, at least!

Scary!
Hopefully they get to ten expansions while maintaining quality and avoiding dilution. I will never fault Eon for their line of expansions, they did a lot to spin up my brain three decades ago. But gaming has advanced quite a bit, so you should only add components if it also adds to gameplay.
Meanwhile, I need to catch up on the existing expansions...

Ships are chips -- it's one of the things I teach new players.

It could be argued that they've already beaten them in terms of raw volume. There are already more aliens and players possible than ever was officially released by Eon.
I hope the next two expansions really focus on a new module and not on more players.

Definitely deceptively deep. Just about every time I lose I start to replay the game in my head and recognize the bad choices I made (even if it's something small like not making a convincing bluff I could have made), and usually learn from my mistake(s)

Thanks dude. Before I was introduced to CE, I was mainly into Texas Hold'em, so when I started playing CE, the bluff and mental elements of the games seemed to come naturally. It is indeed deceptively deep, and I absolutely love every minute of it.
