Forgive me if this has been discussed, I just couldn't find it.
I've recently picked up and become a huge fan of M44. Now I want, no NEED, expansions. I figured I'd go to the source and ask everyone what their favorites are and why.
Suggestions?
edit: on further search I've found some discussion of this. however if you will indulge me I'd still like to hear suggestions.

I got Eastern Front first, and love the different additions presented in it.
Campaign Book Vol 1 is great if you can find it also. I've played about 10% of scenarios in it and absolutely love it so far.

In over 2000+ threads in the M'44 forum you couldn't find one about preferences for which expansions to get?

Like everyone else, you will end up with Memoir '44: Eastern Front first because that is what everyone else recommends first in every one of the other threads. I predict this one will be no different.

Usually you want the theater packs (Eastern Front, Mediterranean Front, or Pacific Front). Having the Terrain Pack is also helpful. You may want the Winter/Desert maps as well.
Eventually, you may want to play Overlord scenarios. For this, you'll need a second base set, and you may also need a second copy of any theater packs. The Overlord expansion with the Overload command deck is worth getting if you go this way.
I like Winter Wars for the Breakthrough command deck. I like playing with the Breakthrough deck even for standard single board scenarios.

Same three answers you find everywhere else:
1) Eastern Front 2) Air Pack and Campaign Book Vol. 1 if you can find them. 3) Already tons of threads on this.

There are multiple threads already discussing this, but I can tell you from my experience as a fan with only 50+ plays (over two years) that there is a lot of replay value in the base game. This number will vary for different individuals based on how many different people they introduce to it and how often you will play it.
I've played 7 times with the Eastern Front which is still easy to find (as are the other army expansions) and really enjoy the new scenarios, rules, etc. When playing the EF I also play with the Winter/Desert Map which is much more visibly appealing.
I have had the Air Pack (now OOP) for some time and have only used a couple of tiles, but nothing else... yet. I wanted to enjoy the base game before going back and adding in the whistles and bells.
I really want(ed) the Campaign Book Volume 1 which is now OOP and very popular as well, but nearly impossible to find anymore unless you are willing to pay a boat load. I'm at the point where I'm considering getting the Volume 2 while it is available and the Pacific Theater expansion for the campaign experience.
There are other ways to play, that I hear are very fun with a deeper field of play or broader span with two boards that someday I hope to play. My point is, that this is a system that is addictive and like many I feel the temptation to get everything... but I don't know that I would actually get to play all of those options if I had all the expansions. Just my opinion. I suggest you pick an army pack and enjoy it before rushing out to get more that might sit on a shelf collecting dust until you get around to playing it.
Keep playing...

Well I appreciate some of the comments. As a relatively new user I could have done without the snarkiness.
But thanks all the same. Just teaches me to not start a conversation in here without THOROUGHLY searching all of the threads. You guys really know how to make a person feel welcome!
And to those who pointed me in the right direction, thanks! Just what I needed. I ended up grabbing The Campaign Book volume 2. Going to grab an actual expansion tomorrow as my game guy has credited me 35 bucks just because I'm awesome!

Yeah, it seemed like the best option. Thanks for suggesting it!

Well, having all the expansions in my possession right now I think I am becoming a little bit reflective on how I might have picked things up in either a different order or, perhaps, left some out.
I really think it depends if you want to remain on the Western front or if you intend to spread out into the other theatres. So I think I would select two paths:
1) Eastern Front for Soviet forces followed by winter/desert board to maintain the visual realism
2) Breakthrough followed by Terrain Pack in order to really make the game come to life (Breakthrough has detractors and fans: I am a HUGE fan - the dynamics of the game skyrocket).
I suggest that you just recognize that you are eventually going to have all of the expansions eventually.

Perfect! Just what I was looking for. And much like Dominion, I'm sure I will indeed get all of the expansions. The wife will be stoked to hear how much money we'll soon be out.

Just in case you haven't discovered them yet, here's a link to the DoW User Pages: http://www.daysofwonder.com/en/user-pages/
These are mini fan pages created by people who are fans of Memoir '44, so you'll find lots of helpful resources and hidden gems in these...but be warned, you could lose hours looking through these!
To help you on your way, here are a few User Pages you might like:
My User Page - Not to toot my own horn, but I have a few useful documents that can help you with anything from teaching Memoir '44 to your kids to giving you a reference page to look up rules quickly. You might find something you can use.
JDRommel - this French player has created a wealth of scenarios for the rest of us to enjoy. Many of his creations have made it into expansions, including The Breakthrough Normandy campaign in your recent purchase.
AD79 - Stig Morten has created a very useful document that outlines which expansions are needed to play all of the others. This might help guide your future purchases.
50th - This player has also created a document that might help you figure out which expansions you want to buy. You'll have to search a bit for it, but look for the project called, "MEMOIR '44 EXPANSIONS (EXPANSION EXPLAINATIONS)" and you'll see it.
Like I said, there are lots of other treasures, but these are just a few to get you started. Have fun and good luck!

Hey man, I'm new to, you can't always find the info your looking for in a search, I think everyone should be able to ask any question they want, when I see a question Im not intrested in I just skip it, so ask away, most people here don't mind.

No doubt! Great information there Jesse. Thanks.
On a side note, I've been reluctant to post because I've seen how some people react. I've been on the site "religiously" for the better part of the last year. I even made it to BGG.Con, although that's not saying much as I live about 10 minutes from the location at which it's held. I think I've posted twice, maybe 3 times. I can't remember. My thing is this... people talk about how great this community is, and for the most part I agree. But then you get some real toolbags who for no other reason than being jerks, decide to answer a question as sarcastic as they can. I reply to threads all the time but rarely post anything myself for a general fear of jerkery.
This just kind of proved my fears. However I appreciate the sentiment and help from many people and thanks for the kind words Todd.

Again, sorry about the crappy response you got from me. It was both unhelpful and uncalled for. I'll do better in the future and I hope you enjoy the Pacific Theater/CBV2. My copies should show up on Saturday.

I'm glad to help.
I don't know if either of you visit the DoW forum for Memoir '44, but it's very friendly, extremely helpful, and is actually run by the company that created the game so it has a lot more official comments, answers, and material. It might be a place where you can both feel comfortable and helped...

I am new to this game as well and just learned something last night I think you should know.
I tried my first game of overlord and so far I have played most of my games in the basic set, I have played one winter wars and one eastern front (I own EF) and realized that some of the expansions change the game far more than others, they have a lot of rules to go over and remember before the game starts and I found that overlord overwhelmed my mind a bit, I managed to play the game just fine but I think I would enjoy the progression of M44 better if I don't jump ahead, allowing my self to enjoy the additional rules in smaller increments rather than skipping ahead and leaving the simpler rule sets to learn after the more complex rule system taking the excitement out of the smaller expansions, by making the smaller expansions seem too simple perhaps
I would say there is a better way to progress through the expansions, and folks like us should consider this before making a purchass.
It may be a good idea to purchass them near their release order and save overlord and breakthrough for later, even breakthrough has additional rules although far less complex than overlord I will still wait on this one.
I hope this helps you out, I want others to enjoy the learning of this game as much as I am.

This has been my conclusion and thus my approach has been what you've suggested. Play what I have and play the expansions at least close to their release order to "grow up into" the larger more complex format.
I want to enjoy the game and format and not get caught up in the frenzy of trying to rush through or "to" everything too fast. There are also a lot of other games I want to enjoy and play too.

I have been reading alot and tried some of my friends expansions and so far I think the best first expansions are:
1) terrain pack 2) Eastern front 3) Mediterranean Theater
These expansions won't require breakthrough as well to get full use of them.

I'm really interested in this 2nd path. Its sufficiently new that its not very well documented. How does the new Winter expansion fit into this? Is its breakthrough deck essential?
