Some clues add traits to the search roll, e.g. "add your Might to the roll." Should you be adding your trait directly to the roll's outcome or should you roll Knowledge+Might? Do these bonuses circumvent the rule that you don't roll more than 8 dice?

The way I understand it is that you add your might value to the number that resulted in your roll. For example, you have a knowledge of 4 so you roll 4 die. The result is 6. Then you have a might value of 5 so 5+6=11. You have revealed 2 clues so then add that to get your final total of 13.

Thanks. After some analysis of the clues' wording, this was the conclusion I drew as well.
