I got this game yesterday. I browsed the rule book, but couldn't find a answer to the following: Are the aging cards (or rather, card) permanently active until you choose to pay 2 life tokens to destroy it? In other words, should there always be an aging card in play that affects the fighting cards in every single round? I obviously played it wrong the first time, discarding the aging card after each fighting round and drawing a new one for the next (which made me and old man halfway through the "green" step).

The aging cards are part of your deck of (fighting) cards and treated as the others except they are more expensive to destroy and obviously more powerful (in a negative sense).

So each time you deplete your deck and need to reschuffle you add an aging card. That is remains part of your deck and shows up when drawn. So the effect is only valid when drawn during a particular fight.
To get rid of a card it works like the other cards. You need to loose the particular fight, in this case with -2 or higher, so that you can decide to destroy the aging card.
