Hi ! I really need some advice... I like Descent but it simply doesnt hit the table anymore. I got the base game, road to legends, altar of despair and well of darkness.

I though about putting it on ebay all together, but im afraid i wont get enough money to compensate the loss, since the 2nd Edition is on the horizon. What do you think ? If i get 100Euros + X out of it i would be satisified, but not sure how big the demand is

Maby i reinvest the money in the 2nd edition but not likely right now

Thanks for your advice!

EDIT: everything in excellent condition, all cards sleeved, nothing painted

If you don't play it you don't need it.

Personally I would probably wait until the 2nd edition comes out and then make the decision. This is because you can still use the old heroes and monsters with 2nd ed and they probably won't be available anymore at some point.

I just bought a copy of the 1st edition based on positive reviews of the game and, based on the process I went through to find and purchase my copy, I think there is plenty of demand. If you decide to sell, I think you should be able to get what you are looking for, I payed $100.00 USD for just the base game (this did include shipping). I would love to get copies of the expansions, but they are even harder to find and comparatively expensive (Road to Ledgend, when I can find it, seems to go for more than what I paid for the base game).

I hope this helps and good luck!

I'm with Markus on this one: If you don't play it, sell/trade it. That being said, you know that there will be a conversion kit for 2nd edition, right?
In any case, it wouldn't hurt to just put it up for auction with a soft reserve, so if it doesn't hit your desired minimum, then no skin off your back.
Also: Should I go ahead and sell my 1ed copy, in anticipation of 2ed?

Keep it and buy the 2nd edition conversion kit. If you're not going to play Descent anymore, get rid of it!

If you want to get 100,- and more, why don't you start the auction at that level? I know, it costs more, but anyway?

On the other hand, I wouldn't sell it. It is a rare piece of gaming history and even though you might be buying the 2nd edition (or the upgrade kit, that is) as well, you might be something of a collector and regret to have sold the 1st edition of a game, which might still have e very bright future ahead of it (and some more editions...).

Short version: I would keep it safe and protect it from any damage.

If you really go for selling the games, I would set up individual auctions. I once bought collections of RPG stuff at ebay.com and sold the individual products at ebay.de again (which was a very time consuming, but funny hobby, by the way). Individual auctions alwaya ended higher than the bulk auctions. If that says anything for Descent, I would do it the same way again.

Is Descent the first game where demand actually went UP when 2nd edition was announced?

If you really need to ask, the answer is "yes, you should sell it."

The only reason to hang on to it (IMHO) is to wait until 2e is available and you can make a more informed decision about whether you want to buy 2e (and, by extension, the conversion kit.) After that question is answered, you'll know for sure whether or not 1e has any value left for you.

I'm not sure of the exact conversion rate, but $100.00 seems like a reasonable asking price for all those expansions, so 100 euros should be doable, too.

You may or may not need to sell Road to Legend separately since it's in another language, but the good news is an English version of RtL should be easy enough to move by itself. Shipping costs to North America would be pricey, but that expansion is pretty hard to find over here.

I here that all the time, but at this very moment I know of three places I can get copies off the shelf at normal retail.

Thanks for the insights. I wasn’t aware Descent was becoming hard to find. I bought Descent and the first four expansions to paint the figures; but they keep getting bumped to the back shelf by other painting projects. I confess this thread kind of dampens my desire to finish the paint project. It is really easy for me to trade games I paint unless folks begin thinking of the game as a potential “collector’s item”. Then, they seem to become obsessed with how much my “modifications” detracts from the game's collector value. It’s so much more fun to paint figures for someone who will use and enjoy them that it is to listen to someone fretting how much the game would have been be worth if I hadn’t painted it.

Non-Collector = Probably sell it. The 2nd edition (unless its a clunker, hopefully unlikely) will be the way to go. The almost-certain expansions will surely be more streamlined this time around.

Yeah... but I'm almost done painting the whole lot. cool
