Can someone point to a post or tell me how a game designer gets a "Game Designer" icon on BGG?

You need to geekmail an admin such as Octavian to be added to the database as a game designer.

Edit: See Jake's answer below. Thanks for clarifying that Andrew!

Ideally you should also have a game in the database but I don't think this is required.

I was under the impression that when you get your user set up like that you're just linking your user account to the BGG 'person' entity, but you're not considered to be a game designer unless that person entity is credited as the designer on a game in the BGG database?

Along similar lines: I was advised to create a 'person' entry for myself here:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/item/create/boardgameperson
before geekmailing anyone to ask it to be linked to my user account. But that was possibly because that would allow the game entry to be created with the correct designer attributed without having to wait for the user-person link to be made.

Anyone ever actually playing the game is not, however, a requirement.

What Jake said. Octavion isn't the right person to geekmail about this. They've automated the system a bit more.

I did link myself to my game in the database. So will the icon just show up eventually? Or do I need to do something else?
