Many people discuss how Dracula is much more frightening in this version of the game; we found the opposite to be true!

In our admittedly single play, we didn't find that Dracula seemed way more powerful than the Hunters: in fact, Dracula seemed much more scared of the hunters than in the remake. Since he has no control over whether it's night or day, and since the stake is instant-death (vs. insta-lose-some-blood), attacking a hunter was way more terrifying in this version. If you rolled Day, and if the hunter had a stake, you had a 50% chance of losing the game then and there in the first round of combat (so actually a higher chance of losing the game altogether, considering that combat can go multiple rounds). Someone with a Heavenly Host was also able to hold off Dracula really easily using just that and Dodge, even at night time (all Drac could HOPE to do was claw them every once in a while)! What makes Dracula so supposedly scary?

Many people don't know what they're talking about. You've got it right; Dracula wants easy prey. There are exceptions, of course, but attacking Hunters is a bad idea more often than not.
