Hello,

in the rules the word "may" is written a lot when discussing leaders. There are some leaders that you simply do not forget, but our group have a tendency to forget the Saxon leaders quite often.

I just want it clarified, is placing a leader optional or mandatory? If it is optional (which is kind of like we play it) we just ignore that missed leader, but it would make a difference if it was mandatory.

Thanks,

Archie

I'd say it's mandatory, just like population increase or reinforcements.

The only time I think you'd purposely want to not place a leader (vs. just forgetting to) is if your nation is very weak with few prospects, and you're concerned someone else is going to kill your leader for points.

I'd also say it's mandatory. We usually put the leaders on the timeline at the start of the game, then move them to the population track at the start of the turn that they enter if they don't enter the game with new armies in a sea zone to make it harder to forget them.

I also play that it is mandatory. In many cases other nations can score points by killing them, and by not placing such a leader some nations might be denied potential VPs.

I certainly didn't intend it to be optional.

Great. Thanks for all the answers.

As I said, we usually forget the Saxon ones (and also the Brigantes Leader) and as far as I know, nobody gets points for those.

But that means that we should correct it when we notice it, instead of just saying the guy missed it.
