Played the Raid on Barce scenario last night. Afterwards, I wondered if we got something wrong. The jeep units are only single figure. If they are attacked by close assault and survive, do they get the Stiff Upper Lip battle back die roll? I don't see any reason why not. We didn't play it that way because we forgot. (We don't have much experience with the Brits yet.)
What is the correct way to handle this?

The BCF rules allow this and there is no restriction from the PC rules so I would say yes.

As I think about this some more, here's my problem. My understanding is the intent of the SUL rule is to evoke the fighting spirit of the British/Commonwealth troops. Where others would break, they fight on. The key is the ability kicks in when the unit is reduced to the final figure.
Well the jeep units in this scenario start with a single figure. I assume this is to demonstrate their limited ability to absorb casualties. But, if these units start with a single figure, it is as if they've been endowed with a special ability from the get-go. Every single close assault is going to be against a single figure. They will be battling back all the time, assuming they survive.
Mark's response is reasonable because it is consistent. (Thank-you.) Is this really the intent?

Yes, if a British unit survives Close Assault (without retreating) with 1 figure left it gets to Battle Back. It doesn't matter how many figures it had before teh attack.
