found this gem of a tutorial to make circular tokens http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/507240/making-circular-t...
And wanted to try it out buy making Exhaust tokens for AH, since for some reason our group tends to forget to either exhaust and or refresh in the upkeep. Also for investigators with powers that may only be used once per turn so I thought this cold be a good idea to keep track of things. But I suck at graphic design I want it to be fitting with the theme and also be pretty noticeable since our problem is to forget to both exhaust and refresh.
So what does BGG think of this idea and do you have any design ideas?

The Player's Plate which we've designed, and is currently in the creation phase has slots for Investigator cards, which the player can turn over to represent "Exhausted" items. The Player's Plate, Card Holders, and Component Trays should be available for purchase by the end of next month.

I use small red wooden cubes for games that require a reminder that a card has been exhausted (AH, LofR LCG, Barbarossa, KuniTori, etc, etc).
I have a bunch of red 6mm x 6mm x 10mm wooden cubes (OK, so they aren't actually cubes) that I find ideal, being red they stand out when on top of a card. 10mm cubes can work just as well but are a tad too large for me,
We place a wooden cube above each card that might need a reminder and just slide it onto the card to indicate that it is now exhausted. During the upkeep phase it is then slid off.
If you forget to turn over cards, or turn them sideways, during play as a reminder to exhausted them (as I often forget to do) then having a players mat isn't going to help in any way, shape or form.
Having small cubes seems to work for some reason. They are small enough so not to be intrusive but large enough to pick up (or slide). requires less space than turning a card sideways, less effort than flipping a card over.
Tokens could work but might be a bit more difficult to pick up and depending on the colour / design might not be so noticeable.

No problem ~ you can trace the history of this concept several months here on BGG's Forum. I've started an LLC with a Philadelphia-based artist and long-time friend to create a number of items to both enhance the overall look of the game and organize the hundreds of cards and "fiddly bits" as many Arkhamites have lamented the amount of real estate this game requires.
In addition to crafting and sculpting items for several Presidential Libraries and the historic Washington estate of Mount Vernon in Virginia, the "Artist" has prepared pieces for a number of state and county science museums around the country.
As to the price, we're still in the initial phase, moving from creating each tray and holder which will serve as the mold to producing the first few pieces. As he's currently supporting a televsion show production, time is limited for the project. Again, we hope to have additional information, including pictures and pricing, in the weeks ahead.

I agree, also in the cases where I have printed out player mats/plates they usually end up by taking more space.

I was thinking of having them similar size as the clue token probably slightly bigger though, and having one side green (unused) and the other red (exhausted) and yes try to have the colors pop out and still keep it in tone with the theme

Quite so, sounds interesting can't wait to see the final product.

Having one side green and the other red is the obvious choice for a double sided indicator, good idea.
Clue token size would be about right but I would suggest that you use thick card, minimum of 2mm at least. You need to be able to grip it with your fingers to get a fingernail under it.
While it is still easy to forget to flip the token when needed I think it may be easy to remember to do that than remembering to flip / rotate the card. That certainly seems to be the case with me, I can remember to slide the wooden block onto the card easier than flipping the actual card.

Dumb question: if you players keep forgetting to exhaust by flipping the cards, why do you think they'd remember to place or flip these "exhausted" tokens?

Well.. I know we will since we currently use clue tokens, spent stamina/sanity tokens etc.. I sometimes place monster/gate tokens to indicate exhausted cards.

In the long run probably easier to get used to flipping cards than flipping tokens - save yourself some card
