I have played Hawaii pretty extensively online and have really enjoyed it, so decided to buy it. But it seemed like it would be kind of a bear to store everything and still have it organized and accessible for quick set up.

I came across a $2 counter tray at Boards and Bits which is meant for wargamers, but seemed like it would work for Hawaii too. How'd it work? Judge for yourselves:

Everything looks pretty normal so far...

Hmmm...somethings missing. Wait a minute, where are all the village tokens???

Ah, there they are, under the insert!

This holds most of the village tiles (all except the long huts and large boats which are too big) and all the player tokens, and is less than 1 inch high.

I had to trim the sides just a bit but it works great and everything is right there and organized when it's time to setup for a game. Plus, it fits right under the insert and is thin enough that the box still closes normally.

Well done! I went with a mid sized Plano, but the insert didn't survive the reorg. Your solution is quite elegant.

Normally I don't like to get rid of the inserts with Hans Im Gluck games but this is certainly one of their cheapest, and worst productions in terms of the box and insert quality.

Thankfully that allows me to seek other solutions.

No, but it's approximately the same size as the box for Hawaii, and fits perfectly inside when the insert is removed.

Works real well sitting on top of insert too. No need to trim the counter tray. Thank you for the suggestion.
