Ian, who I hope is enjoying his vacation, asked me to post this month's "Rulebooks on your Table" thread.

So, what rulebooks are on your "to read" stack this March? Feel free to post about any that are new to you and any you are rereading.

March is still 21.5 hours away, but I'll still be reading these rules tomorrow:

I'm getting ready to do an illustrated session report on Battle of the Little Bighorn. The rules are only 16 pages but are a bit fiddly in places, with special rules for pack horses, alerting the Indian camp, Major Reno panicking, horse holders, etc. etc. Not complex, just a lot of things to remember.

It will be interesting to see how closely to history the game plays out.

This month I'll get Bismarck (second edition) read for sure, and the rules for Pacific Islands Campaign: Iwo Jima will make their way from the box to the spot in my man cave where I keep the rules that I'm reading.

I shall look forward to reading that when I return.

The Western Front: 1914 to 1918 - As a starting point for the DWS. I finished punching the counters yesterday, and I started to re-read the rules, to hopefully have a game on the table before the weekend.

DAK2 - still trying to grasp the rules, before I even start punching the counters (although the rules make me REALLY want to play.)

And as in every month, my on going project for Over There is still going strong. Not that I will be playing this game any time soon, but the rules reading is interresting on it's own.

Cheers, Haring

First of all we'll start with a rulebook that is always on my table Advanced Squad Leader, but this month I have Advanced Squad Leader: Starter Kit #1 on the table as well since I am teaching my wife how to play! Also I plan to do some solitaire gaming so I have Ambush! and D-Day at Omaha Beach out. There will likely be more but this is good enough for now.

I dug out the rules and scenario book for The Great Battles of Julius Caesar: The Civil Wars 48-45 B.C., which I've owned for years but have never played. Enjoying the read, but the "never-played" status is not likely to change.

Must be some sort of ancients kick for me as I also recently re-read the rules for Caesar at Alesia and The Siege of Jerusalem (second edition), along with related articles from The General. Neither of those games got to the table, either.

Decided on The Last Days of the Grande Armee and Battle of the Rosebud, although whether I get any chance to read them is another thing entirely. Toodle-pip !
