I wanted to do something like this:
Here at Forvo... (make a clickable text)
and use the url http://www.forvo.com/word/kunststück/#de
instead of kunst, which I used for the example.

But when using the ü the url is not hidden:
Here at Forvo...
It is broken off at the ü, while the url is legitimate: copying and pasting is no problem.

Perhaps you could have a look at this and other non-ascii characters in urls.
Thanks.

A url may not contain non-ascii characters. Depending on the browser you use, and your local settings, your browser might convert them into legal characters. But don't assume such a pseudo-url works for everyone.

If you use this forvo page and enter "Kunststück", the resulting page encodes the german Umlaut:
http://de.forvo.com/search/Kunstst%C3%BCck/
Using this correct encoded url, you can set a BGG link: forvo: Kunststück

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't aware of the browser dependence.
I would have used the "converted" url, except that my browser (Safari) just keeps the ü with umlaut.

You see a lot of this with spaces being converted to %20, as well. (Very clever, breaking up the URL with tags so it'll show as text! thumbsup)

Edit: Umlauts and such are 8-bit ASCII characters, aren't they? URLs are restricted to 7-bit ASCII (numbers less than 128).

ASCII has 128 symbols and only requires and uses 7 bits.
