You should also know that you're not allowed to take your gun into hospitals or banks in Texas.

I tried to sign up on my phone , but couldn't log into paypal. I signed up at home, but had as different registration number. I want to be sure those tickets get back in the pool. Don't have the registration number for the failed transaction, as my phone has died since then.

This is very much part of the tradition when I go to BGG.CON. Every year, I do not eat until I am full, I eat to the pain.

Should probably add

to the list. I think he had his eyes opened to this last year and will be bringing an appetite this year.

Other things to help with the language:

- All soft drinks are called 'cokes', with the exception of Dr Pepper!

- BBQ means beef, no sauce, except if you are talking ribs, then that means pork...for some reason beef ribs are not as popular.

- Do wut? - This is the standard response for someone that wasn't paying attention.

- Uh huh - When it is in response to "Thank You", it means "Your Welcome".

and my favorite...

- Fix'in - Means that you are about to do something. "I'm fix'in to play a boardgame."

You left out:

- Tump Over - Means a combination of "Turn Over" and "Dump Out", but it implies a slowmotion type of tipping in the process.

This one cracks my wife up every time I use it, I'm a big fan of Tump, both Tumping Over and Tumping Out.

I appreciate that some Texans have told us that there's better BBQ to be had, but I'm totally making sure that my group has at least one car in it to be able to get us to Hard 8 over the course of the weekend...

I'm wondering, with the size of attendance doubling, will there be enough games in the library to support the crowd?

I was thinking about trying to donate my copy of Texas Monopoly to the library, to go along with their copy of Texasopoly. (One is Texas themed, the other is UTexas themed.)

Voila, I've doubled the number of people who can check out Monopoly! I accept GG donation in thanks.

I think doubling the number of participants should allow for a doubling of many other things such as sponsors, stores, hot games, playing area, etc. It increases work load for organizers by more than double in many aspects though.

Not looking forward to the line to sign up for events, and I'm not sure how this can be improved. Last year it appeared that many of those that had signed up didn't show up and there were many other players who would have signed up and showed up had there been room.

Is there a practical way for people to volunteer for a few hours here or there when they are (gasp) ready for a break from actually playing games but not really interested in being anti-social?

I've volunteered at tons of events (including doing banking/registration at over 40 charity auctions over the past 10 years) and would be glad to pitch in a few volunteer hours for the con.

Oh, oh! Pick me!! I'm from Michigan! It's practically another country!

We usually have a convoy Tuesday night after all the setup is done.
We will carry a number of people there.
We still have to figure out how to get our cars out of the
hotel/airport parking, but I'm sure it can be done.

Hard 8's BBQ quality varies, but it is an experience.
There is also Bone Daddy's not far away (think the
Hooters of BBQ).
There may be better BBQ around, but not close.

A call for library volunteers will go out closer to the convention, but they usually request (require?) that you aren't a first-timer.

Re: BGG.CON 2012 Registration Open!
Just a note that the hotel shuttle at the old hotel was amenable to taking us to Hard 8 (especially when we had a larger group) as long as you tipped them quite generously (still likely cheaper than a cab) and it made for a nice easy trip. No idea if the new hotel will be as friendly, but I would hope so.

Or, we could just bow to the demand, and add Hard 8 to the food bus schedule.

Why 2 numbers?

one is your customer number ie the 4405th person to order while 4662 is the ticket number.

in both cases we started around 3700.

so you are the 705th person to order some tickets and you ordered the 962nd ticket (showing that the *average* person orders 1.4 tickets)

Someone had posted on a friend's Facebook that the con was sold out. I went in this morning and got tickets for for both me and my wife (trophywife). We're #5022 and #5023, respectively.

Last time we were there was back in 2009, and we were able to drive over from Shreveport, which was less than 4 hours. Now we're coming from Kansas City, so it'll be a lot farther and longer...

Dude,

KC is about 5 hours from here....and its all freeway.

Not sure how fast you drive, but Wichita is 6 hours at 70, and KC is about 3 hours north of that.

Whoops was thinking of Joplin, not KC...but we just did this a few months ago and made Joplin in just over 5 hours...KC is only another 1.5 from there.

Don't trust google maps here...it still thinks most of US 69 in Oklahoma is 2 lane...they just finished the 4 lane all the way and it cuts over 2 hours out.

But you can take your gun into the State Capitol and it will actually save you time going through security.
