Just curious as to how many tickets were made available to this year's convention.

Thanks,

Too far away. Maybe next year you could move it to Australia seeing as how we are possibly almost 1% of your user base. That may almost double if you were to host it here! Where else can you see such ludicrous gain?

I got in everyone's hostile little face. Yes, these are wooden cubes from boardgaming. Yes, I'm comfortable with that. I am enlightened.

This is better than last year where it sold out in less than three days.

Out this year. Will certainly be back 2013, assuming we survive the zombie apocalypse on 12/21.

Just open boardgaming? No tournaments? Why travel just to play casual?

To play with all of your BGG friends from around the world. One of the few ways to be able to meet and play all in one place.

Besides, tournaments are for the "too serious" players.

You can setup any tournaments you like. BGG.con is 'roll your own', which is why its so awesome.

There are some tournaments (last year one had a grand prize of a trip to Essen), gameshows, a puzzle hunt, dealer demos, all the hottest games brought over directly from Essen just a few days earlier, the largest game library you are likely to ever see, and 2,000 people to play them with in an awesome environment.

Never been to BGG.con but open gaming cons are awesome. If you've never been to one I highly recommend you make an effort to do so.

Well thanks for the warning but I know I won't get in until the waiting list time if at all. I won't know until July if I can go. *Sigh*

Oh well. I await the waiting lists.

Lots of folks don't have regular gaming groups, or groups whose taste in game doesn't quite match their own, and BGG provides the chance to meet lots of gamers. Additionally, the BGG library has many titles other people don't have. And as others have mentioned, it is a great way to reconnect to friends.

Honestly, if you don't feel like it's worth traveling to, you're probably just as fine not worrying about it.

It is in Dallas, TX - I'm confused as to what in my post leads you to think otherwise. Maybe the Essen talk - the BGG crew always go to Essen in Germany to report on/bring back the latest games for the con.
