The time has come, for me to pass on this most hoopy tradition, to the next lucky and deserving person.

I didn't have to look far, as this person has helped not only myself, but numerous amounts of people to complete their games, by sending out his spare parts from his thrifted games. I can't even count the number of games, that he's helped me to complete and am always seeing him offering to help others whenever he can.

You may have seen him doing so, on either the 2012 SPARE PARTS RESOURCE LIST or the Weekly Thrift Find Geeklist.

There's so many kind, generous and helpful people on the 2012 Spare Parts Resource List, but I could only pick one person and without further ado. I present to you this Super Hoopy individual:

Come on down! You're the next contestant on the GEEK OF THE WEEK!

kingmaker fan wrote:

WOW! This is an amazing thing. I would have never thought this would happen to me. In fact, when Bill asked, my first thought was to contact his home planet to let them know he was losing it! I didn't contact them though, because I don't want to see them recall him!

Well, here we go ... I stumbled on to this wonderful site when looking for some information on Kingmaker (what else could it have been). And before long I was hooked. Most of my time is spent in the thrift community here, auctions, and Games for Geek Gold.

So if you don't frequent the thrift community, your probably saying "Who?" right about now. I understand!

Board games have always been in my life but mostly main stream gaming. My first game out of the main stream was in my early teens. At a hobby store we frequented at the Old Town mall in Torrance, California I saw Kngmaker. Despite the fact that it was my own money it took me months to convince my parents to allow me to purchase it. They were so sure I would not like it. Decades later it is still my favorite game.

Although I own quite a few games, I have played very few of them. Time and gaming partners have not matched up well. In recent times, I have found some gaming opportunities with fellow BGGers, and/or at Ucon, Wintercon, and SAGEFEST (and other SAGES events). On Friday night I played with some fellow BGGers at their place. We played Ticket to Ride, Small World, Dice Town, Incan Gold, and Crows. And for me it was the first time for each. I didn't win a single game but still very much enjoyed the game night.

Well, if I a ramble on much longer, no one will have any questions to ask. I do not have access to BGG at work and don't have a smart phone so my answering will be confined to evenings unless something unusual happens.

Poll
At the lunch break of a filming of Knight Rider (the original) I nearly killed the Hof when he decided to jay walk as I pulled out into traffic.
I witnessed my High School win a play off game against a school called University High by a score of 55-0.
I once jumped off the roof of a house in a game of hide-and-seek, sprained both ankles, and broke my leg ... but I was "safe".

I don't want happiness by halves, nor is half of sorrow what I want. Yet there's a pillow I would share, where gently pressed against a cheek like a helpless star, a falling star, a ring glimmers on the finger of a hand.

Congratulations David! Great choice Bill!

Some questions for you:

d10-1 What is your favorite part of the Geek?

d10-2 What is your favorite contribution that you made?

d10-3 What is your favorite contribution that someone else made to the geek?

d10-4 Do you have any gaming goals for the year?

d10-5 I see that you haven't ranked any games as a 10. What would it take for you to rank one that high?

Have a great week!

Excellent choice for Geek of the Week!

Dave --

What are your criteria for a "good" trade on BGG?

How has your thrifting changed over the years?

What is your current thifting grail game?

What is your best non-game thrift find?

There have been a dozen games published since Kingmaker, meant to be like Kingmaker but "better." Do you like any of them, and if so, which is your fave?

Where do you usually play games? Do you have a regular group?

What have you been playing lately that you like?

Looking forward to reading your responses this week.

CONGRATULATIONS! David

Hmm, not many wargames - but you have some pretty heavy ones where I see them.

d10-1 What keeps you away from the mainstream wargames?

I'm a fan of Kingmaker myself. I once considered using it as the background world for an RPG campaign.
d10-2 What was it about the game that caught your eye the first time?
d10-3 What is it about the game that keeps you playing?
d10-4 What would you change about the game?
d10-4A Got house rules? (dish)
d10-5 Are there worthy successors that you've given a try?
d10-5A If so, what are they, and what did you think?

That's enough for now.

Enjoy your week in the sun! Cheers!

Yeah Dave! A deserving geek to be sure!

Here's some questions:

1. What's your favorite non-commercially-available meat?

2. What's your favorite game that's not at all like Kingmaker?

3. What's the best game you ever thrifted? (edit, looks like the question was already asked. blush )

4. What's the biggest disappointment you ever had thrifting after getting it home?

5. Are you ever going to make it up to ROBA so we can game together before next Wintercon or do I need to come down there?(edit: I've never played a game of Kingmaker but totally want to learn.. if that affects your answer at all )

Cheers man! Again, well deserved.
