Okay, i'm confused about the card where you have to stack your draw deck on the totem. I understand that first person wins, last person loses, but how do you decide who goes first? i mean, if everyone tries to go at once, it seems like it would be impossible to balance it with everybody josteling to get in. Can anyone tell me how it worked for them?

The card with the hands on it does not tell you to stack your deck on the totem but to put your hand on it.
Your stack of cards stay on the table.
