There are 6 special cards in the deck, three good (2*, 2*, 2*) and three bad (1/2*, -5, thief). Why aren't all six of these given the red border rather than just the first four?

Big advantage is this would make rules simpler to explain (e.g. avoids questions like "Does the thief steal the -5 card?").

Only problem I can see is you'd need a new end game condition (instead of ending when 4th red card appears you would end on 5th red card, say). Doesn't feel like a deal-breaker.

Put another way, given this is such a simple game, why is there the complication of not giving all 6 special cards the same colour? It feels like the game started off with all 6 red but then playtesting revealed a problem. I just can't imagine what that problem is, and wanted to ask for thoughts before I take a permanent red marker to my deck.

Since they are the endgame trigger, I'm sure there is more than aesthetics going on with that. Your game would end more quickly, that is for certain.

I do think I get that question every time I bring the game out though.

When I've explained the game, it never seemed hard to explain that the red is simply for determining the game end and has nothing to do with whether the card is 'good' or 'bad' or otherwise special.

It doesn't really matter.. Not all the bad cards are red bordered, only the multiplier and divider.. It's for sure, also like the other said, triggers the game end..

Thanks all for your thoughts.

In the edition I have, the red cards are *very* red, it's the most obvious thing about them, so it seemed to confuse when I explained the rules to some newbies last weekend.

Think I'll wait and see how many different groups I end up playing this with. If it becomes a regular question then I'll create my own variant deck.

Cheers guys
