Following on from our first game of Bowl Bound with teams from the box, I decided to play a more recent matchup. The Bowl Bound Yahoo group has charts for a number of games over the last few years, so I printed out the 2009 Texas and Alabama BCS charts to re-run the 2010 BCS Bowl game. For anyone interested in how the real game panned out, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_BCS_National_Championship_...
So without further ado, here's the 2009 Texas Longhorns vs the 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alabama won the toss and elected to receive. Their first drive started on their 21 yard line but was over almost immediately - two incomplete passes and a 1 yard run meaning they had to punt the ball away. Texas returned it to Alabama's 41 yard line.
During Texas's drive, the QB Colt McCoy made a 16 yard run. That, along with a 14 yard pass and a couple of other plays brought Texas down to Alabama's 17 yard line where the momentum ran out and they were forced to settle for a field goal. The score was Texas 3 - Alabama 0.
Alabama's next drive started with a 27 yard run and a long pass, but deep within Texas's half their luck ran out when Texas intercepted a pass.
Texas drove the ball back upfield, but they too had bad luck when Alabama intercepted one of their passes. Alabama didn't have it for long though as Texas's D held them up and they were soon forced to punt it away.
Starting from the Texas 20 yard line, Colt McCoy was forced to run the ball twice, once for 14 yards and once for 9. However he was soon able to leave the running to other members of the team and Texas quickly moved the ball into Alabama's half. The quarter ended with Texas 1st and goal on Alabama's 2 yard line.
Alabama's D looked like they were going to stop Texas scoring, holding their first two plays to a total gain of 1 yard, but Texas finally pushed the ball over the line for a touchdown. The extra point was good so the score now read Texas 10 - Alabama 0.
Things still weren't going Alabama's way as their next drive started. Texas intercepted a pass and ran it back to Alabama's 5 yard line. This time, however, Alabama's D were determined to hold Texas back and Texas eventually had to settle for a field goal. Score, Texas 13 - Alabama 0.
The game was starting to look a little one-sided as Alabama started their next drive, but things soon changed as they marched the ball back up the field, culminating in a 38 yard touchdown run. With the extra point, the score now read Texas 13 - Alabama 7.
Texas started their next drive on their 29 yard line, but an offence and then a defence penalty started things badly. Texas couldn't pull off any big passes or breakaways, but they marched the ball steadily upfield into Alabama's half. Things looked bleak for Alabama with Texas 1st and goal on their 3 yard line, but Texas fumbled the ball and Alabama recovered it!
Alabama moved the ball back upfield to near the middle, but their drive stalled with an offence 10 penalty and they were forced to punt it away. However, Alabama intercepted the ball on Texas's very next play and the half ended with Alabama well inside Texas's half.
Texas's first drive started on the Alabama 45 yard line and they steadily drove the ball down field to Alabama's 23 yard line where the drive stalled and they missed a field goal attempt.
Alabama moved the ball back up to the middle but Texas's D stalled them just inside their half, forcing them to punt it away.
Texas's next drive also brought them up to the middle before they, too, stalled and punted away.
A succession of long passes brought Alabama back into the Texas half, but they threw one pass too many and Texas intercepted it. However, Alabama then intercepted Texas's first pass and so started another long drive. This one was slower and more methodical and finally, with just over a minute of the quarter remaining Alabama scored a touchdown with a 9 yard run. The extra point was good and the scoreline read Texas 13 - Alabama 14.
Texas started their next drive on their 38 yard line and were still inside their own half as the clock ran down.
A couple of long runs gave Texas a touchdown 3 minutes into the quarter. The extra point was good and the score read Texas 20 - Alabama 14.
Alabama's next drive was over almost before it had begun as Texas intercepted yet another pass. Even with a couple of offence penalties, they still run the ball in for another touchdown. With the extra point the scoreline read Texas 27 - Alabama 14. There were still 10 minutes of the game remaining, but Alabama had it all to do.
Alabama's next drive started on their 15 yard line, but their first play was a breakaway 27 yard run. A series of short passes and runs drove the ball down the Texas 4 yard line from where Alabama ran it across for a touchdown. With the extra point the score now read Texas 27 - Alabama 21, but with exactly 4 minutes of the game remaining had Alabama left it too late?
Texas's next drive started on their 18 yard line, but quickly fizzled out forcing them to punt it away. Alabama still had a chance, but the clock was ticking and there were now less than 3 minutes remaining...
But Alabama weren't going to tease. Their very first play was a 35 yard run bringing them onto the Texas 32 yard line. A short pass and a run brought them down to Texas's 13 yard line then disaster! An Offence 10 yard penalty made things more difficult for them. As the clock ticked down Alabama ran the ball twice, bringing them down to Texas's 8 yard line with just half a minute on the clock. It was all or nothing and Alabama pulled it off with a touchdown run, making the score Texas 27 - Alabama 27.
With only a few seconds remaining in the game and the scores tied everything hung on the extra point. Alabama didn't take any chances and they slotted the extra point home.
Final score: Texas 27 - Alabama 28
Nice session report. Roll Tide!
Sometimes You Are Wrong !
Coolest Promo Ever ! Stonewall Lives
You even coached like Mack Brown !!!
Up by 5 and goes for the extra point then up by 12 and goes for the extra point again, instead of a two point conversion.
A well deserved one point loss !!
The only part that wasn't believable was when Colt McCoy lasted more than 3 minutes against the Alabama Defense instead of being put out of the game on injuries.
