The game store in the town I now live in occasionally has a game night on Wednesdays. The store is really heavy with the HeroClix players at 3:30p, but some will occasionally stay for other gaming afterwards (at about 5:30-6p). Tonight was such a night. On the dockett was Munchkin Bites.

This was my first Munchkin experience. I honestly have never played any of them, but have wanted to try them because I hear they are fun and funny.

So, the rules were explained to me and we began.

I got off to a rather good start. And by "rather good" I mean that I was able to advance two levels in my first two turns. After that, the cards really went against me. I lost my two levels right away to consecutive traps. Each of the other two players got out a special race card right away and extra items. I was stuck with a power that allowed me to have an extra card in my hand and a card that would add two to my combat.

But, I never got any monsters to fight. I did get some random items and played those out, hoping that they would do me some good. And, I did assist someone in battle in exchange for some of the treasure and a Werewolf card, but it just didn't work out for me. By the time I got to level 3, the other two players were up to level 9, just one fight away from the win. I didn't even get items worth money so I could trade them in for levels.

Sean ended up winning the game by playing an "Imitate Bela Legosi" card to gain a level and the win.

I would like to try this or any other Munchkin game again, because it was sort of a quick and easy game.

Well, the first game may seem that way.

By the way, winning the game through playing a card is not allowed. You can only reach level 10 by fighting and beating a monster, or by a card being revealed which causes everyone to go up a level.

Of course, if you could win the game by playing a card, it would be a much better game.

Your winner cheated. You can't win the game by using a "go up a level" card, you must get your last level by killing something.

I had my first munchkin experience playing at ConGames, a newish gaming convention in the Phoenix area. And it went pretty much the way yours did, except the winner didn't cheat. And the cards actually helped me in that I got to level 7 before the winner did go out.
