Brass is the best. No doubt about it.
But is also an heavy difficult to grasp economic game.
Automobile plays faster and it's simpler, a very good game IMO - that will appeal more to non-gammers .
Your choice.

Buy both !

i'm a wallace fan, and love Brass. i was excited for automobile, but found it very very dry and ultimately not at all enjoyable.

As others seem to say, i would choose Brass over automobile in heartbeat.

Automobile is more scripted and usually one mistake will cost you the game. The decision making is mostly driven by calculations in Automobile since it's quite pure economic game; most money wins. Brass feels more strategic and my decisions are rarely based on pure calculations, maybe more towards the end or sometimes if I have to calculate if my strategy is even possible.

Wow.....that does sound like a resounding swing in the votes and a unanimous decision for Brass.
I'm so glad that I asked before purchase. Thank you all.

My opinion:

Automobile is best with five, almost as good with four, and fine with three. Brass is fantastic with four, not worth playing with three, and decent with the two-player variant.

I'd choose based on your usual number of players. They are both worth owning and playing.

I have to disagree with the 3-player game of Brass. I like it a lot. There are only 5 votes for "Not Recommended with three" on the geek page, so I don't think it's widely hated number of players.

I love both but brass is the better game. With that said if you would have posted this survey in the Automobile game forum you might have gotten different results.

I've asked this for 'automobile' against 'brass' but which is best out of 'Brass', 'Puerto Rico' or 'Caylus', or are they all very different games.

Each of those games is a completely different design. I feel they cannot be compared in that regard. Anyone answering which is "better" would likely be answering a different question in their mind instead (e.g. Which is easier, which looks nicer, which is faster).

Well they'd most likely be answering the question 'Which do I enjoy more?' but posting the question in the Brass forum is unlikely to lead to an unbiased result.

Just wondering:
Did you try posting the same question in Automobile forum and see what is the difference in results?

People here are of course not objective as most of people checking these topics are fans of Brass. This is clear from the 2nd pole where brass got 70% of the votes and Puerto Rico 23.3%. In reality Puerto Rico has a higher average score and a higher geek rating.

I do prefer Brass but probably just because I have recently been introduced to it, and I've played hundreds of PR games.
