Have searched and see many mentions of Rivendell/Lothlorien, but none of Lembas Bread's change. Those are the only two differences I can find between editions. Is that correct?

Thanks for alerting me to the Lembas Bread change - wasn't aware of theat one.

New Rules - discard any number of cards and draw up to 6 total

Older Rules - (no initial discard), draw up to 6 total

I presume he means that in the original edition, if there are only 2 players then you take out 4 of the cards at Rivendell/Lothlorien and distribute the other 8 between the players. Also, the cards are to be distributed randomly.

IIRC, the Silver Line edition just says the cards are to be "distributed" among the players, with no mention of taking any out or even randomising them. But I'm not sure the intention was to change the rules, I suspect it was just sloppiness.

Personally, I find only having 8 of the cards to increase the difficulty a bit too much, so I just use them all regardless. But I do like randomising them.

That's not really a change - in the original, you can discard any number of cards at any time (page 7).

Oops! blush I've been doing that wrong for years!

This is exactly the topic I came here to research. When the new instructions say "Distribute" the cards, what is the implied method? Shuffle, deal them to all the players? I cannot find the answer in the rules. Read every page.

Yeah, I think the new instructions just left that bit out accidentally. The precise instructions from the original version are:

Shuffle the cards.

Deal the cards out equally among the players.

- If there are only 2 players, only deal out 8 of the cards. (I ignore this as it makes the game harder.)

- If there are 5 players, start the deal with the Ringbearer and go round clockwise. (Therefore the Ringbearer and the player to their left will each get 3 cards, while the others will each get 2.)
