How does the facing of the cars affect?

If I understand your question correctly, the facing of the cars affects which spaces (directions) a car can move to next. The car always has to face one flat side of the hex space that the car is on. Moving into any of the 3 hex spaces in front of the car is considered moving forward. To move forward, you roll a number of dice determined by the terrain type that the card starts on. To move in reverse to any of the 3 spaces behind the car, movement is more restricted (slower)...if I remember correctly, you don't roll a die to move in reverse but can only move up to 3 spaces in reverse.
Each time you move to a new hex, the back of the car must face the hex that you just moved out of. Players are not allowed to skip spaces or "undo" their movement once they have started moving their car. Cars must move the full die roll.
You can drive counter to the flow of the the track (if you get turned around), but certain spaces with arrows require you to move only in the direction of the arrow.
I do not have a copy of the rules in front of me, so this is my best recollection from playing the game at BGG.CON2010.
