I have recently played this game on Yucata.de. The winning move is my most memorable to date. Have a look at the following situation and see if you can figure it out.

It is white's turn. Black has just moved its purple piece. White has to move its red piece. Pieces marked with little black arrows are sumos. They can only move up to five squares per turn.

This puzzle shouldn't be too hard for seasoned players. But here is a link to the solution if you're having trouble: [solution]

1.Move the Red 3 spaces diagonally.

Forces Orange to move to Orange.

2. Orange advances 6 spaces to Yellow

Yellow can move to red, blue, Brown or red which are all immediate wins

I'm afraid you've fallen foul as I did to the position of the red. The white red is not an immediate win. The black orange is blocking to the left, the white yellow to the right and in front the black pink is on the back line.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
White red to c6, Black orange to b7
orange f7, yellow e7
red c7, pink c8 (blocked)
green h4, pink c8 (blocked)
green h6, red d8 (blocked)
pink f2, pink c8 (blocked)
and the pink slips on through

I think that all works.

Definitely more straightforward if black doesn't go to e7 with his yellow piece. Good puzzle either way.

If black's yellow moves to the first red square (e7 on a chess board) it will be blocking the way for white's red. No immediate win there.

FTFY

Ah, yes, that works too. And it's slightly less convoluted than what I had come up with: blocking yet another piece with green to g3 and then g7.

I came up with this initially, which is different from (and shorter than) the two solutions given and requires less advanced ideas...I'm not very good at the game . So I am proud of seeing this one.

They are all forced moves which is how I found it.

It starts the same,

red c6, orange b7
orange f2, pink c7
pink g3, pink any move

and white wins with either pink (just makes it in 5), brown, red or blue.

Phew! Hopefully there's no errors there, great puzzle by the way.
