On this episode of Board Games with Scott, I take a look at Aqua Romana, a tile-laying game that was nominated for the 2006 Spiel des Jahres.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your show...I can't believe you've already made 25 (+1) episodes!

Just out of curiosity, I think this is the first episode where you reviewed a game that you weren't very enthusiastic about. What made you decide to review this one rather than one that you liked better?

I haven't seen the AR review yet (will have to wait until I'm home from work), but Scott's review of the new release of Fury of Dracula wasn't entirely positive either.

He has said he only reviews games that he likes, but apparently he will review a game that he likes in some ways but not others.

He said he won't review Caylus...so does that mean he doesn't like it then??

I think Aqua Romana sounds interesting, and I'm going to pick it up.
Good quick review, Scott.

(running and ducking before I'm labeled a heretic for not enjoying Caylus)

That's a good way of putting it. There's got to be more that I like than dislike about the game. That will allow me to create a positive video where I can focus on what I like, and then briefly present my dislikes, and not feel that I'm doing a disservice to the game or the viewers. In addition, it keeps me from making a negative video where I just grouse about something.

If I think that's what I would do about a game, then I won't do a video about it.

Excellent way to choose videos! the way we should think about games and other things in life! your videos also give a great overview of the rules that makes it very easy for me then to explain a new game to my wife or kids

So what game do you recommend the most for this genre? I'm thinking about getting Metro, but I'm really on the fence. I like the idea of a route completion game that involves tile laying, but I'm just not sure what's out there besides Metro and Aqua Romana. I mostly play two player games, if that makes a difference.
