Hi y'all welcome to BoardGameGeek 2.0. You won't see a *whole* lot of visible changes, but just about the entire BGG software architecture has been rewritten from scratch.

If you notice anything broken or acting weird please post here. We will be burning the midnight oil to make things work as fast as possible - so please be a little patient with us while we complete the conversion.

We are using fogbugz to track bugs - so please register them here if you wish, or you can post in the thread.

But, um...

Notice: Undefined index: errorcode in /var/www/public_html/connect.php on line 3

Appeared when I first linked in, and also upon clicking "Quick Reply"

Still, congrats!

Edit: OK, after a brief bout of
"Smarty error: unable to write to $compile_dir '/var/www/public_html/smarty/templates_c'. Be sure $compile_dir is writable by the web server user."

both the undefined index and the smarty error appear to have resolved.

The lists of current games, etc, in E&T work fine, but the game pages themselves come up completely blank. ()

(Minor issue: On the list of one's current games, those which it was our own turn in used to be highlighted, but they aren't any more.)

Hi,

It seems that the geekmod section only now shows Images and Articles (no longer including sessions, data and reviews). Is this by design?

Also, I cannot see a favicon, is this by design? This is on Firefox 3.0.5 on WinXP.

Thank you very much for your hard work. As a programmer, I can understand how difficult the change must have been.

A few things:

1.) Are my personal comments supposed to be displayed when I'm browsing the rankings pages? If so, what's the rationale? I can edit and view my comments any time by going to my collection, but seeing them when I'm browsing the rankings is sort of superfluous and mildly distracting.
2.) When I log plays, I cannot "grab" the pop-up window and move it around. The white-hand icon appears, but does nothing.
3.) Game stats are now way further down the main page for games - intentional?
4.) Game weight is now displaying one sig. fig. instead of two.
5.) Game weight graphs are not loading. This is the error message:

Quote:
The image “http://www.boardgamegeek.com/weightgraph.php?gameid=18602” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Actually the more I try the less seems to work;

I can't open mail
Pages lock out and when I click back I end up at the front page.
It seems to be getting slower by the minute.
The inability to restructure the games page, even for those with great breath holding ability is a real balls ache.

At this moment I think the site is pretty much firing on one cylinder and I hope the changes prove to be worth the growing pains and upheaval. Good luck, I think the hard work is about to begin.

It was very slow, but I've been able to:

• Record games played via the search-return list
• Change status of items in my collection or remove them completely (again, through a search-return list or from the game's entry page.

But these were VERY slow.

(Using Firefox on OSX 10.3.9)

When looking at my contributions, I love the way "Geeklist items" display entries and comments in an intended outline format. Mini-avatars, too. A space-saving feature.

EDIT: I also like the fact that "The Hot List" is now called "The Hotness". I heartily approve.

Don't know if it's already been posted, kinda drowned after all those pages of combined junkie drool and bugs, but:

If I go to My geek/stats/games owned by year I seem to have loads and loads of games: every game is mentioned in all the different languages....

Oh, and probably wishful thinking: I was kinda hoping that when I clicked on "tags" in my profile, that when I see "related tags" and see the number of combined tags, that clicking there would lead me to just those combined tags. Instead of just repeating the same link in tags.

Ah well, I guess I just keep bitching untill either my favorite "sort by tags" feature returns or just give up all hope of this database getting fully useful for me again and just sticking to my trusty excel file that is available 365 days a year...

I guess. The truth is, I don't feel like reading my personal comments every time I browse the rankings. I wrote them; I know what they say. They're largely for the benefit of other users browsing a game's personal comments.

Was there also a font change? To a larger size?

Overall, I don't mind it. However, I do notice that the general layout of the pages where the "Jump To:" links used to "fit" nicely in one row are now wrapping, leaving awkward spacing and making it kind of weird navigating. If I make my font size smaller, it still wraps, and I have not changed my screen settings, so I believe it to be a BGG change.

This is akin my wife moving the furniture and my trying to walk through the house at nighttime, you know? I used to know where everything was, and even though she moved it only a little bit, from here to there, I don't see it anymore until I bump into it.

Perhaps down the road a better solution is a reworking of the layout of these links... this is, in the grand scheme, a minor nitpick, but a nuisance-y one.

James

P.S. I like a LOT of what I see. MOST of it, in fact. Kudos and congrats! I'm only making note of what's different that doesn't appeal... the list of what I like would be much, much longer.

How is the "Give User GeekGold" functionality supposed to work? When I tried to transfer GG:

1. Went to my user profile
2. Clicked "GeekStuff"
3. Clicked on "Give User GeekGold"
4. I removed my username from the "Transfer To Username" field and entered my target's username
5. When I submitted it, I kept getting an "Error: You cannot transfer GeekGold to yourself." error.

I had to actually go to my target's profile and submit it using the Give User GeekGold functionality. Is this how this should work now?

The site has always had problems of this type. It allows users to create names which include non-alpha characters (#, ?, etc) which cause havoc when used within URLs.

BGG needs to either remove all the non-alpha characters in names or consistently transform them in all URLs into strings which will not get discarded or misinterpreted by browsers and/or the web server.

Thanks so much for all your hard work! Maybe now you can get some rest.

Thanks also for the intervention-it helped me face the reality of my gaming addiction, and I'll be a better man for it. The hardest part of dealing with the software update was checking BGG only to find a long list of game stores instead of the home page. How I avoided going to Boards & Bits without buying something is hard to believe.

Browser Mozilla images are not showing up in the game pages and the game gallary has them about 1000 pixels off center to the right.

------

When adding a game ID with the game button it throws it to the front of your text field so you have to cut and paste it to where the cursor was when you were typing.

I'm sure you'll get this a lot but; I don't like the shrunken avatars in the geeklists. You can't really tell who the people are (some are obvious) but shrinking the image looks really sloppy.

I do like the new search script, but it does seem a little buggy. I've had several attempts to add a game to my collection (in this case "Railroad Tycoon") and I would see the result pop up for a second and then go blank. I click the X, re-type it in, see the box pop up, blank again. It took me a few tries to get it in.

Also, when I posted in the thrifter's geeklist, I clicked on the Mag glass to pick a picture and the gallery was blank and would not net me choose anything and I had no way to close the app window. Had to refresh the page.

Everything else has been looking good. Thanks you guys!

Yes, but if there's only one result in a search, it takes you directly to the game page and bypasses that screen, so you're off the the collection page, anyway. I would think it wouldn't be too hard to have a simple link on each game page to "Add to your collection".

I think about this because it's been where I spend a lot of my time as the wife and I have become pretty regular thrift store junkies for games and I've been able to buy a few new ones thanks to my state tax return in the last week. It's a bit cumbersome to go into the collection to add multiple games fairly quickly only to have to kill the filters and scroll down to find the ones I need to mark Owned. My collection isn't getting any smaller in the near future, either, so I'm destined to spend more time in these screens.

Edit: Besides, it makes sense. If I go into my profile, click on my Owned games and click "Add a game", one would imagine it would add a game and mark it owned. Same for if i clicked on my games for trade. If I added a game after clicking on that, it could add the game to my wish to trade list.

The search way can work, but it's more of a workaround than a solution.

It does add the game, it just doesn't mark it owned. The "Collection" system tracks more than just ownership info, so it can't assume the game you're adding is because you own it. Maybe you're adding it because you want to trade for it. Maybe you're adding it so you can track additions or auctions.

I agree it would be better if that linked popped up the full info box like the Status column does.

2. on game page after board game the year is no longer listed after name nice and prominitely

3. same thing w/missing year but on geeklists the year is now missing (instead redundant "Boardgame" prefix is given)

4. on game page... I used to have the stats block up nice and high on the page, right after the description/extrainfo block... now it's a real pain to scroll down

5. on geeklists... the "edited" date for an item is listed under "posted"... but on comments on items in geeklist it's reversed... should be consistent...

I for one actually like the lack of a big avatar in geeklist comments. I used to automatically disable comments in geeklists because the comments used to make it hard to see the geeklist items, however with the indenting and change to avatars it is much easier on the eyes (for me at least).

They do for many (perhaps most of us). I believe this is an IE 7 bug. Perhaps try the standard cache clear, or forced shift-reload.

If they are definitely gone, I would suggest something another user did weeks ago: add somewhere on the front page a "random game of the day" image/link?

Looking at the designer and publisher pages. I like the new layout and potential. The only thing I think is missing is the original block that listed the games designed/published. This is not available. I think it would be cool to have this feature (already a part of the old style) in addition to the new approach - it certainly made searching a publisher/designers line-up easy, as well as searching dates published, rating, alphabetical etc.

Further edit: I love having the information bar at the bottom of the designer/publisher page, as I said above - I just wish the other information was available as well.

Cheers,

Giles.

Apologies if these have appeared elsewhere in the thread, I have had a quick scan through, but there is a good chance I've missed something.

2 points.

1. RSS feeds for game pages seem not to be working. In IE7, if I click on the RSS icon on the game page I just get an error, in Firefox I get a list of items as before and can subscribe to the feed. In both cases however existing subscribed feeds do not update. Feeds for threads seem to be OK.

2. Cooliris support. If I browse the first page of an image gallery I see the icons in the bottom left of the images and click to go to a cooliris display of the gallery, but only its first page. If I close Cooliris and move to a later page of the gallery there is no bottom left icon and I can't launch cooliris.

On functionality I like a lot of what I've seen, but will join the crowd bemoaning the mini avatar blocks in comments and wishing for a return of the game page customisation option.

I apologize if this has been mentioned/covered (but there was 9 pages to trudge through). My usual path for browsing BGG was to check a few particular game forums (Arkham Horror especially, but all in all maybe a dozen or so). After I'd done manually checking those forums, I'd click on "Game Forums" under the "Games" bar (up there with Home, My Geek, Forums, etc.) and then browse about 5 pages deep seeing if there was some thread to a game I don't regularly check. Sadly, it seems there is nothing showing if I click "Next" now. Same for Reviews and Sessions . Nothing but blank.

First page is normal:

after clicking next:

I too have noticed this behaviour... when the play is added (and each time the play is edited) it will keep only 2 players (the first and last ones entered)... editing will allow you to add 2 more... and if you delete one of the ones previously entered and re-add along with 2 more (as I did, since I like the players to be ordered by score) it still only keeps 2.

Using "add to collection" in the collection view won't really do anything. You have to mark it yourself, as owned, previously owned, wishlist, want in trade or something like that, from the game page.

Geek gold tipping and transfers aren't working properly

I can tip an entry in a Geek list with a standard amount and that seems to work OK.

But, when I choose to tip "other amount" and enter the amount and send the GG it just disappears into the aether.

I then tried going to the user's profile page and sending the GG that way. The process appears to work and the GG disappears from my account, but does not appear in the other user's account.

I've now lost 135GG of "prize money" that other users should have.

Could the transfer mechanism be fixed and the GG refunded to me or sent to the rightful owners.

This has been fixes, and all gg has been returned.

I don't see this on gamephotos geeklist (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/39352), so I'm adding this comment from another thread so he can add it there. I don't know if it's a "change" or a "bug," but it's an annoying (but minor) usability issue:

Quote:
Since Geeklists don't allow you to subscribe for updates, it used to be if I wanted to check for new additions, from the front page of BGG I could jump right to the last page of the list.
Now, the pages aren't listed, so I have to click first on the geeklist itself, which takes you to the first page, then a second click to the last page. So yeah, only two clicks, but still, now it's double the work to make up for the lack of no geeklist updates. Usability is important even if it's only the difference between one and two clicks.

Thanks for all the work you put into maintaining BGG!

In case this helps you find a bug or something, this thread:

Where was I?

BUG - Advanced Game Search

Advanced search returns results in non-sensical order. I entered the following parameters into the Advanced search boxes:
2008-2009, rated 1 to 10, min 30 ratings, no expansions, no wargames.

The correct results are returned but are not in any default order. Previously they came back in BGG Rank default (which would put the first 5 as Dominion, Pandemic, BSG, LeHavre, Stone Age, with ranks 6, 20, 26, 28, 34).

Instead I see Pandemic (20), Dominion (6), BSG (26), Stone Age (34), A Touch of Evil (299), etc.

Clicking on the column headers to force ordering still works, it's just the default order returned on search results that's broken.

BUG - Geeklist Items

Items added to geeklists are not chronologically ordered within individual days. A contribution from Jan 19th appears after one from the 26th, (i.e. reverse chronological order as we've become accustomed to), but a series of adds from the same day (26th) appear in random order.

BUG - Geeklists on front page

The little page links below multi-page geeklists are missing.

Whine

I know bug zapping's the priority right now, but one thing that was lost with the move to mini avatars for geeklist responses is the ability to tell where someone's from - the flag's gone. Not to mention the quick links for geekmail, etc. I would love for this to return as it saves mouseclicks trying to sort out where someone's at, etc.

Searches for Tags don't sort the way they used to.

I normally search for the tag weekly_thrift and the newest thrift geeklist would be at the top, the oldest at the bottom.

Now they sort using some criteria that I can't determine.

My RSS feeds hadn't updated so I checked out the Feeds link and noticed that it has changed quite a bit.

I went to recreate my RSS Feeds - Recent GeekLists and Recent Reviews - and found a couple problems. First of all, both feeds have a title of 'Recent Additions | BoardGameGeek Forums'. Secondly, the URL for both feeds are incredibly long and I am not able to add them into my RSS reader. Granted, the length of URL my RSS reader can take is not BGG's problem but the way the feed URL is generated by explicitly listing every type that should not be included seems counter-intuitive. Wouldn't it be better to only include the types you want in the URL?

Might be the same issue as the one I flagged about game searches and geeklist items. Something in the sorting / ordering side of things appears wonky. Maybe they're not paying the Oompa-Loompas enough?

The idea is that searches are most likely to help people find what they are looking for if the those items come to the top. I could see an argument for sorting advanced search in a different way, but I do think the current sorting will be the most useful in most situations.

On further consideration, think this is the correct way to do this sorting. You are will get a limited number of hits on a search (between 500 and 1000, I think), so having the most popular ones at the top on the first search seems appropriate. you can always click a column and resort.

Before the change, I had found that my favorite way to browse the Geek was by using a page with the address:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/newuser.php
It showed a list that appeared to be of the hottest, most recent, or most thumbed (? -- I could never tell) things on BGG lately: Geeklists, reviews, forum discussions, images, whatever was getting a lot of attention.

I could never figure out how to find this page using the Geek itself; it first showed up when I was a new user, as soon as I created my account, and ever since then it has been the first result that comes up in the top bar of my browser when I start to type in "www.boardgamegeek".

Which is fortunate, because otherwise, it would have been lost in the murky depths of BGG, as if it had never existed. None of the menus seem to lead to it, and I haven't found any links to pages for new users -- other than the wiki, which it wasn't part of.

So now with the update, when I go to the newuser.php address I get a 404 error... and that means the page is lost in the murky depths of BGG!

Can anyone tell me where it has relocated to?

Thanks,
John

BugWhen you are writing a geeklist, if you do not complete it all in one sitting you can't find your own half-written (unpublished) geeklist when you return to it!

Earlier today I was working on a geeklist that I started before v2.0 and I could only find it in "Geeklists/My Geeklists" and then click "Active". However this now no longer takes you to your active geeklists.

In addition, when looking at "My Geeklists" you cannot get past page 1 - the rest is blank.

Well, that explains why I couldn't see the sorting system.

I don't know if anyone else would agree with me, but I tend to prefer having Rank as the default sort. Mostly because it's a non-opaque search result that provides immediate feedback that the search 'worked'. The way it is now, it's easy (as I did) to assume that something's broken, since views isn't one of the columns available to us.

My perfect solution would be to default to game rank for advanced searches and keep the non-advanced searches the way you've got them set up currently.

The BGG Marketplace window for a game lists the entries in chronological order. Prior to 2.0 they were listed in reverse chronological order. I much prefer the previous format because it kept the first page of results from being clogged up with old, often overpriced, entries from people who might not even be using the 'geek anymore. Can you change it back to the way it was (most recent additions listed on the first page)? Thanks!

I added an item to this geeklist and it populated it at #1 instead of at the end. Don't remember anything unusual happening during the add item process.

That list is sorted alphabetically.

Ahhh, so it is. First time I've seen a list sorted that way. I was checking the timestamp of the entries and they all seemed to follow in chronological order.

Nevermind then.

Bug: Some pages, like this one are not respecting window boundaries -- at least on XP with both Firefox and IE7). By this, I mean the text boxes disappear off the left side of the window instead of justifying to the window size like they're supposed to and usually do.

I'm not sure why. Often, this sort of thing is caused by a picture that won't resize but that doesn't appear to be the case here.

This isn't the only page I've run across; it's just the first one I could re-find when I was looking for an example.

Addendum: Not sure what changed in the last hour, but the problem is now on Page 3, not Page 2. I've fixed the link above to reflect this change as well.

Thanks,
John

I'm not speaking for the admins, but I think it's gone never to return. You used to be able to get there if you logged out of your account. Now when you log out, you're simply taken to the main domain name: boardgamegeek.com

If you're like me and stay logged in, this shouldn't be a problem. Add a bookmark and/or include in on your Firefox bookmarks toolbar and/or make it your browser's home page.

Agreed - I really liked being able to hit 'all' and get the list of games for a given publisher.

Also, I'm not certain that this is new behavior, but if I search publishers for "Rand Game Associates", it takes me to a page with one link, "Rand Game Associates", that I have to click on. Didn't exact matches used to take you straight to the entry you were searching for?

Suggestions for Recent Additions

These pages are very unreadable now. The usage of columns is inconsistent. I suggest:

Related Item: Game or Forum only. No subform. No image.

Type: Put subforum here if applicable.

For game image comments: (game), Image Comment, (image)

For new stuff like threads, bold the title of the thread as well as the word "thread".

BUG: I have "geeklist items" off and I still see entries for them.

With 14 pages, I can't be sure this hasn't been brought up yet, but I couldn't see this on gamephotos summary geeklist either, so...

When I check my geekgold collected page, it used to show how much I'd earned from geekmodding. This figure is no longer at the top of the page.

I always find this useful when a user starts whinging about the modding process and then you see that they've never ever done any themselves. I then feel justified in ignoring everything they've said.

GAME SORTINGS

Functionality removed

I loved the fact that I was able to browse through games on different search criteria.

I would love to have the date back. I was going through all the games backwards.

If that isn't possible anymore. A sort by gameID would be very cool and not to hard to program.
I have to read about every game and don't want to miss a single one.

BUG - Thumbs from GeekQuestions and GeekAnswers don't add to tally in user's "contribution" page

This has been a longstanding problem, but still a bug.

BUG - Tipping GeekAnswers fails with "User Not Found" message

This had been a problem for both GeekQuestions and GeekAnswers. The GeekQuestion tipping problem was fixed, but not the GeekAnswer.

BUG - Advanced Search data is useless for statistical retreival

As discussed in this link, the data returned isn't nearly what it used to be and now includes images to make things impossible to cut/paste. Also, you can only see 10 pages of data and when you retrieve all 5000+ rated games, that ain't enough.

The best solution would be to have a user named "All Games" which would "own" all ranked games in the database and would have "previously owned" all other games in the database. That way, anyone could go to that fake user, download the collection (or just the "owned") and get the stat information and you could leave the advanced search for those who like little pictures and such invading their data. :)

The first page comes up fine, but when you click page two, it comes up blank with this address:

Edit that manually by adding boardgame/ before the 0 to get:

After that, just manually change the 2 to 3, to see page 3 etc. Put the link into your quickbar to save yourself from having to do it time.

There are several items which were originally included under "more information" that I utilize on a spreadsheet for all my games. They are the rating (normally from 6.00 to 8.00) and weight [complexity] (normally from 2.00 to 4.00). Another vital piece of information that is missing from each game are the "text opinions" (in the upper right hand corner) from individuals letting us know their reasons for rating the game as they did. I also liked the rating and complexity graphs (to a degree) as well as the number of people either wanting or selling the game. I certainly hope this information re-appears for the games, especially the game rating, complexity (weight), and rating opinion categories. Thank you

There seems to be a further problem with tags. When tagging a new game (that is, one I had not previously tagged), I just found that I could only put a limited number of tags on it. When I tried to add additional tags, there was no indication that I couldn't, but they just would not appear in my tag list. I also looked at a previously tagged game that I had had a lot of tags on, and I'm pretty sure some of them are gone. It's as if you can only have so many tags for a game.

A request regarding the Items Submitted list (formerly Games Submitted, I believe).

Previously, this list used to be arranged in chronological order, like the Images Uploaded lists. This was very helpful because I could check back at this location to see which games I had recently added.

Now this list has been changed to display the "items" in alphabetical order. I am not sure why the change was made, but the original option was more helpful to me. Any chance we can restore the chronological ordering (with date) as an option?

Please add a link for editing the front page to the top menu where one would expect it to be.

Deciphering the top menu - there should also be a link/option to "expand" the top menu tree so we can browse all of the menu options at once - this would help people get up to speed with what options are where, and when we forget which tab is hiding that option we use once in a blue moon...

Good news, bad news on publisher pages...

It used to be that when you would "list all" games from a publisher's page, you would get a thumbnail image next to each game that had images (or each one that had a representative image that had been Geekmodded). Somehow those images went away some time before the 2.0 switch.

Now, the standard page has a list of game titles with an image next to them (good change), but no option to "list all" games (bad change).

Please return List all as an option to the game publisher pages, and include a thumbnail image next to each game title if there are any images in the gallery for the game.

When you view your collection, the column width for the game title has been significantly shortened. That width has been realocated to the personal comments column, which definitely needed it. Now comments aren't bunched up on the far right, needlessly ballooning the height of each entry. Awesome!

Apologies if this has been posted before and I've missed it in the traffic.

Filters (GeekFeed) are now working again. However, only a little over a page of listings are showing up, with the result that, even if I start with the oldest, they disappear faster than I can read them. Of course, the idea that GeekFeed EXISTS is awesome enough, but -- I'M MISSING STUFF!!!!

Find Users (w/google maps) doesn't seem to be working for me.

I'm using Safari Version 3.2.1 (5525.27.1) on a MAC at home and Firefox ? on a PC at work.

It loads now (I reported a loading problem in beta), but if I put in the zip and miles it refreshes the map but doesn't go to the zip code or put the 'pins' on the map.

I tried this in Advanced Search with 14 as the minimum age and the results were spot on.

could you clarify what you were searching for?

Previously, the "minimum age" filter gave you games that the publisher considered suitable for that age and older. So if I put in "3" it would give me only games that would be suitable (according to the publishers) for children as young as 3. Now it appears that the filter gives you only games that would not be suitable for children _younger_ than the specified minimum age. (So the "14" age filter that you used excludes games that are listed as suitable for children younger than 14.) That may seem a more logical interpretation of the term "minimum age," but I don't see that it's very useful. I at least do not use the filter to learn which games would be too old for my daughter, but to find games that _are_ suitable for her or will be in a year or two. (She's 2, but I've gotten her "Go Away Monster" and "Sequence for Kids," both of them listed for 3 and above, and she enjoys both. I plan to get her "Orchard" next.) It's not a huge deal, because I have already used this search to discover a number of games that I think will be great for her in the next few years. But I'd like to be able to check on new games and to refresh my memory of the options available.

I know that many people complain that BGG isn't a good place to find kids' games, but that has not been my experience. And the "minimum age" filter as it used to work has been extremely useful. I don't see that the current parameters are useful at all. But if others find them so, then by all means keep things as they are.

Sorry if this has been posted/asked before or that I've missed it in the 17 pages of posts traffic.
This would imply a search option for a specific trhread.

Beside the "great job" compliment, how can I edit the new field "Art by" in the Game entry?

How can I now propose an image as representative?

It seems those options are missing.
Thanks.

Added this to the bug report as well:

Prior to the changeover, the "recent additions" was returning 3 weeks of data. With the changeover, there is only 1 week of data being returned.

As someone who uses "recent additions" religiously to track the information on nearly 2000 games, this change is severely detrimental.

I had actually - a few weeks back - requested that the data be expanded to 4 weeks; but I was able to work around my vacation, so that when I returned (today), I could access the previous 3 weeks, with no interruption.

Please re-activate the 3 weeks of data being returned.

How many days of data is it returning today?

Check that tomorrow and I'm guessing it may be your previous answer plus one.

You may find that it still will return 3 weeks of data, just it hasn't been three weeks since the cutover yet and that history needs to accumulate first.

Nope - it is still returning 7 days of data -- yesterday, I had access to 1/31; and today, my recent additions starts at 2/1

I need access to 1/19 and forward...that's what I'd taken care of before my vacation, when I realized my request for 4 weeks of data couldn't happen.

At the very least, I'd need things to be back to what they were before I left....

Besides the above-mentioned issue with Recent Additions, where has this page moved to now?

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/gameidbrowse.php3

which listed each game in order of its gameID.

Between that page and the Recent Additions page, that was - essentially - 90 percent of my activity on this site. I *desperately* need those two features re-instated (note: these are not 'new' features; they are simply features that existed prior to this 'changeover').

Well, I got the item moved, but I don't know how I did it.

The old method showed a phantom image of the item being moved. This method does not provide this, so that I can't tell where I have moved the item. This would be especially inconvenient when moving an item from one end of a long list to the other end -- making this method unsatisfactory in my opinion..

This was an intentional change--in order to avoid excessive false positives, I set up search so that you can search for partial words only if you type in the first part of the word. Hima will find Himalaya. Just start at the beginning of the word, and you should be fine.

There may be some fixing going on with the search feature, as the beta site had problems with titles having a dash ("-") in them, but this seems to be working now (with a glitch here and there).

They weren't working initially; then they were working great for about a day - now, they seem completely broken. I only return threads for certain games from Jan. 17 to Jan. 19 - nothing before and nothing after that.

Hopefully, this is just a minor glitch -- as I said, yesterday, during the day, it was working perfectly.

which individual setting are you talking about? If you are talking about the ones that say "Want to buy", the global settings should control whether you get notifications. However, the "notify of auction" setting on individual games will supersede the global setting--in fact, that is the only purpose of the "Notify of auctions" and "Notify of Sales" settings. There is no reason to set them unless you want to receive notifications.

Looking at a board game category (I tested sci-fi):
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgamecategory/1016
Clicking the "sort to" buttons like sort to rank, doesn't seem to work.

In other words, when I click sort to rank, my expectation is that the list would resort and place highest ranked sci-fi games at top, but currently it just seems to bold the rank of each one in the list. Even clicking back and forth through pages doesn't seem to change anything.

I don't know if this is recent, since I didn't test it before the updates, sorry.

Right. OK. I was getting confused with the wording in my preferences. "Notify me of auctions in my wantlist" is a different subset to that of those I've checked on the individual game pages.

In that case I'd like another check box in Preferences that allows me to turn off ALL notifications of auctions and sales, not just those on my wantlist. For example at the moment I have no money and its a bit of a pain to go to every game I checked "notify of auctions/sales" on to stop being sent auction and sales info and so stop me crying at the injustice of it all.

This was a known issue with the live system, but the reports are t hat it has been fixed sometime in the last 48 hours.

Are you still not seeing an updated Tanga ad?

(Have you tried clearing your cache as that seems to hold onto stuff for too long, preventing new stuff from appearing.)

'Flag' Display - using I.E. 7.0 in case that makes a difference

This is a minor issue but still a bug I would say. When you hover over a user's flag icon you get a note of where they've registered as home, which not only adds some colour to BGG but can be helpful too.

Problem is you also get an icon description label saying 'flag', which is far from useful - especially as it obscures the location text.

Bug? If I use the new "advanced search" function (BTW I really want back the old one because it was much more detailed and usable) I can only sort 4 pages of games I own then it stops. It also doesn´t show up the right order when I use sort by rankings. eg. 1001 is before 950.

Is there somewhere a thread or something where I can see a list of the improvements of new BGG?

This was an intentional change--in order to avoid excessive false positives, I set up search so that you can search for partial words only if you type in the first part of the word. Hima will find Himalaya. Just start at the beginning of the word, and you should be fine.

So how do you expect us to search for games titles with a special international character sonewhere towards the beginning of the title? Also, there are tons of games for which I might only know the exact spelling of the 2nd word in the title. Does this mean that 2 or more word titles can only be found if I know the 1st part (or a partial beginning string of it) correctly?

This is very American focused and doesn't help if you don't know the exact spelling of a certain name (as I recall spelling isn't a real forte of most native speakers either).

(stepping off the soap box)

Thanks everyone who worked on this upgrade! I am so glad that site is back up and running again.

? The system works great for all. If you know the accent, fine, and if you don't, it doesn't matter.

Search for ze (just plain). Ah, second hit, ZÈRTZ

This might not be practical in a number of cases. "Pitch car" returns nothing. You have to know it's written as one one: "Pitchcar". Reasonable expectation would be to assume both searches would return the same results. I'd suggest tweaking this to be a bit more flexible. A list of false positives containing the right search results is always better than a blank page.

No, you just have to follow the first rule of searching. When you don't get any results, or not enough results, or the incorrect results you're looking for, trim back what you're searching for and widen the search. Simplifying to "pitch" works correctly, as expected.

And it saves typing, perfect 4 the kds today

The one other issue that I still have is not being able to search the MARKETPLACE for games from my WISH LIST.

(Aldie I know we have discussed this and if this is still in the works then kindly disregard this entry. I just wanted to make sure that you did not forget about our discussion)

Right now you can do a comparison from the WANT LIST but still not from the WISH LIST.

Since one of the requirements of SECRET SANTA was to update your WISH LIST it seems to me that having a way of comparing a persons WISHLIST to what is in the MARKET PLACE would be a good idea.

It would help the marketplace by making information about available games more accessable, help future SANTAS find games that may be in the MARKETPLACE much more easily and also help me quickly find MARKETPLACE SELLERS for all my WISH LIST games without having to do a game by game search.

# 1 I can't get Games to list games in any format other than Rank. #2 At the end of the Rank listings, several thousand additional games are listed in no particular order that I could perceive. #3 Previously, when perusing a page, I might look up some item or game that caught my eye. On my return to the original page, the website would return me to the line or position I had left from, now when I return, I'm at the top of the page and must scroll down to where I left off. I realize fully that all of these problems are most likely a result of my inability to understand the new system and/or new formats. Thanks for listening, John Ellerbe

I'm noticing problems in organizing GeekLists by rank. When the ranks change, the list doesn't change. However, if you edit the header, and save, it will organize the listings. I've looked at a couple of previously published GeekLists that organize by rank, and have noticed some inconsistencies there as well...see http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/30086 for an example. The first place I notice it is between items 26 and 27, and then there are several more examples later. This has been observed using Firefox on Mac and PC, as well as Safari on Mac.

I am going to have to agree with a previous note regarding this new 2.0. There are countless things wrong with the entire system. Many functions still do not work after weeks (well since 2-3-09) of waiting for issues to resolve.

Perhaps a list of stuff that does not work could be generated with some sort of a way of informing GEEKERS when individual issues from that list are resolved.

At the very least it would show us that progress is being made in fixing the huge number of problems that exist. People could see which issues have been taken care of and which issues remain outstanding.

Maybe there is already some kind of listing of resolved issues somewhere that I am not aware of. If that's the case it would be nice if that information was made clearly accessable to us GEEKERS.

This is one of the major problems with using the external bug DB. It puts all of us in the dark as to what has been reported, acknowledged, deemed a feature, and/or fixed. We get used to stuff being broken, ignore large functions of the site, and never know when they work again. In addition, the same bugs keep getting reported over and over.

The first rule of searching is to start with what you know.

For example, if you know that the crayon game about the Incan empire ends with "suyu" but you don't remember if it's spelled Tahuantinsuyu, Tauantasuyu, or Towanasuyu, then using a search engine that demands that you know the first few letters will be very frustrating.

Don't know if this "bug" has been addressed yet... the advance arrow when looking through posts advances to nothing. The same goes for narrowing a search for a game (i.e. just reviews). Once the next page/advance arrow/search feature is selected it advances to nothing but an empty area (where the info should be). Sorry if this is redundant.

Do you mean by using the widget?

If so, I noticed this recently when I tried to do a similar thing using Top 10 and Hot 10. I discovered that the problem was that the games were not in my collection. I fixed it by simply going to the game pages and clicking on Record Information, it was not actually necessary to add any information just clicking on the link worked, after which the widget picked up the game.

I don't know if that is also the case here or whether it's only since BGG2 (I hadn't attempted it prior to that).
