Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 2 – India & Switzerland » Rules » Still not sure how to read the chart

From the rulebook
Quote:
The size of a player's bonus varies depending on the number of his qualifying Tickets, as per the Mandala (“Circle” in Sanskrit) bonus
table shown on the Map. A player’s first and second qualifying Tickets are worth +5 points each, with the next three worth +10 each. Any qualifying Tickets beyond the fifth one earn no additional points (i.e. the largest bonus a player can receive for his Grand Tour tickets is 40 points). These bonuses are scored in addition to the points earned for completing the Tickets themselves, of course.

1 * 5
2 * * 10
3 * * * 20
4 * * * * 30
5+* * * * * 40

Concerning the highlighted portion, how did they get 5+5? Isn't it supposed to be 5 + 10 (with the 5pt part being the 1st Mandala, and the +10pt being the 2nd Mandala bonus)

In the similar vein, how does one decude that "the next 3 are worth +10pts each?".

Example was posted by someone else here which also confuses me for the same reasons...

5+5+10 points

=========

So if I were to use these illustrative examples.....
--circles denote connection cities for Destination Tickets
--lines represent claimed routes
--each color is a different player

For brown, his Mandala bonus is 3 (since Erode to Bombay also counts)?

For Pink (north and northeast part of the map), his Mandala bonus is just 2?

For orange (northwestern part of the map), he has a Mandala bonus of... 20!?

Even if that's correct, how mahy bonus points would each player get then?, so... brown gets 10pts, pink gets 20pts, and orange goes way over the allowed max, so he gets 40pts?

The rule is consistent with the chart.

1 ticket = 5 points
2 tickets = 5+5 points = 10 points
3 tickets = 5+5+10 points = 20 points
4 tickets = 5+5+10+10 points = 30 points
5+ tickets = 5+5+10+10+10 points = 40 points

So basically, you count the number of qualifying tickets and add as many points as shown on the chart.

oh, they've already broken it down for you in the chart.

depends on what their destination tickets are of course.

If brown had - erode to bombay...he would only get 5 points. + the points on the destination ticket of course.

If brown also had quilon to bombay...he would then get 10 points TOTAL.

So, he wouldn't get 5 + 10 = 15, he would only get 10 for having 2 circles.

Same for other players.

Are you sure that the following for brown, given the routes I have set up illustrated above wouldn't be 20pts? I thought there were 3 Mandalas due to the reason below....

#1) Errode to Quilon
1a) straight up
1b) through Calicut

#2) Erode to Bombay
2a) direct to Bombay through only Calicut
2b) through Quilon, Calicut, Mangalore, and Mormugau

#3) Quilon to Bombay
3a) direct to Bombay through only Calicut
3b) through Calicut, Mangalore, and Mormugau

Yeah with those three destination cards yes, in this case you would get 3 Mandala which would give the player 20 yes.

I would agree that you would get 20 pts.

Which is why you won't find a set of three tickets that forms a triangle
