Update 17 Dec 2015:
I'm delighted to tell you that your package has arrived today as I got home from work. Thank you so much for sending me Pandemic Legacy!! Just the game I've been seriously interested in buying. It came beautifully wrapped in gold wrapping too. My wife and I can't wait to get it to the table over the Christmas holidays.
Thanks so much for your generosity and your questionnaires -- they were fun although you had me at the pie one. Didn't think of that initially. Oh well!! Was never great at Maths.
I'm sorry to hear that you've caught the cold. I hope you'll get better soon as lots of children will be anticipating your presence next week! Take care of yourself and I hope your own Secret Santa spoilt you too
GabrielUpdate 27 Nov 2015:
I'm sorry that it's taken this long to reply you. I took the family down to Wellington for a short break and did not get the time to properly reply you while juggling kids and taking the family to places around the city. We're all exhausted after the week long vacation, although that's probably not as hectic compared to the busy time up in the North Pole.
As I write this, it is Thanksgiving so I would like to wish Santa a very Happy Thanksgiving!
You've sent another interesting questionnaire that got us thinking hard. But we've given it our best shot!
A) What is your ideal vacation destination and what exotic animal is most closely associated would you like to see while visiting?
The destination would be Australia, anywhere in that continent as there is so much to see! I never get sick of holding a koala bear too!
They're just really cute to hold!
B) What is the numerical value of pie, rounded to the nearest hundred thousandth?
C) Rank the following flavors of pie from favorite to intolerable: Pumpkin, Pecan, Apple, Rhubarb, Boston Cream, Lemon Meringue, Mincemeat, Cherry, Cow, Blueberry, Peach, Mud
Apple, Boston Cream pie, Lemon meringue, blueberry, cherry, mincemeat, Peach, Pecan, Rhubarb, Pumpkin, Mud, Cow
D) What is your opinion of the board game mechanic "Take That"?
I think games with that mechanic have to be played with the right crowd of people who don't take it personally if things go against them. Personally, I love games like that especially the ones that don't take too long to play.
E) How did you pick the names for your children?
With some help from the Bible
F) What is your least favorite board game that you still own?
H) Is that any particular beef jerky spice or flavor that you prefer?
Hot & Spicy
I) Have you ever played Cockroach Poker?
No I have not! I cannot imagine what that involves!!!
J) How often do you have other gamers over to join you and your wife? Has your older son taken any interest in board games yet?
We have a couple who will come over every fortnight for games night on Friday. Yes, Caleb has been interested in board games since the age of three. He enjoys the HABA games of which he has a few -- Monza and Animal upon Animal. He's also a great helper at laying out the trains for us when we play Ticket to Ride
K) Do you speak languages other than English?
L) Do you feel you have answered enough questions yet?
L-1) If yes, please skip to Z.
L-2) If no, please continue.
M) List three items within arm's length of where you are currently sitting.
My iPhone (playing Ticket to Ride online!), my laptop, a cup of hot chocolate.
N) Do androids dream of electric sheep?
Hmmm... I don't know. Maybe not?
O) Name the nicest thing you have done for another person this year.
At a McDonald's, there was a stranger in front of me wanting to buy himself dinner with $1. That only got him an apple pie. The man is someone living on the streets. I didn't think too much at that time and stepped in to buy the guy a Big Mac value meal.
P) Ask your wife to name the nicest thing you have done for another person this year.
She said that taking the kids out to give her some personal time to do her own stuff is the nicest thing I've done this whole year.
Q) What is your preferred game length in minutes?
60 minutes roughly, up to 90.
R) Do you empathize with the Kiwi as the national symbol of New Zealand?
S) Testing, is this thing on?
Yes it is!
T) Do you have anything against stuffed llamas?
No I don't!
But I just don't know what will NZ Biosecurity think of them if they try to enter the border
U) Aside from the boys, do you have any pets?
No. My wife is scared of dogs (and cats too).
V) How many plays does your average board game get before you move on to another title?
Typically around 5. Unless my wife is adamant that she does not want to play a particular game ever again! Rarely though
She enjoys most of the games I've showed her.
W) How many plays of Suburbia do you think you have?
Probably around 50 or so. I've lost count!
X) What major distinction would you uncover if you shaved a tiger and a zebra? (Not on the same room.)
The tiger will have stripes on its body, the zebra does not.
Y) If you could combined two board games into one new game, what games would you pick and what ridiculous composite title would it have? (For example, combining Agricola and Carcassone to create Carcacola, the communal tile laying farm building euro)
Combining Ticket to Ride and Suburbia to form "Ticket to Suburbia"?
The game where you not only build up suburbias, you'll need to connect them together in a complex web of mass rapid transit.
Z) What would you do if you were suddenly handed a million dollars?
I'd pay off the mortgage. In Tauranga, there are many families (particularly the elderly and the ones struggling to make ends meet) who struggle to pay for electricity to heat their homes during winter, so many live in cold, damp and poorly insulated homes. I'd like to do something for these people even if it means helping them out with some of the costs so at least they don't have to shiver their way through winter.
Phew!! Santa, I can't believe it but I managed to complete the questionnaire!
I hope you find the responses adequate and hopefully not too predictable. Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!!
Apologies for the delay in responding to you. I've been away out of town working in Auckland and just got back tonight. Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me, and I hope this message finds you well Santa.
I'll try my best to answer your questionnaire, so here goes!
1. Are you naughty or nice? (Be honest, I can tell.)
Santa, I'm not good at answering this sort of question as the best answer would come from others whether they think I've been nice or naughty. I try my best to be as nice as I can possibly be! But sometimes, people may still think I'm not nice enough
That is my honest answer Santa.
2. This year we are only offering board games and stuffed llamas. Which would you prefer?
Board games. I definitely prefer board games.
3a. If you chose board game, what is your ideal player count?
Ideal count is 2 (with the wife). More often, we play 4-player games when our friends come over for a visit.
3b. If you chose stuffed llama, what color do you prefer if available?
4. Do you have any phobias that should be avoided?
Yes, I don't like spiders and cockroaches!
5. Any severe allergic reactions to be noted in your file?
None that I know of
6. What was your favorite food when you were ten years old?
7. There is a popular tongue twister about woodchucks chucking wood. If you are familiar with this saying, do you say "How much wood a woodchuck chuck?" or "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck?" If you are not familiar with this saying, please supply your own tongue twister.
I'd say "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck?"
Thanks for the fun and interesting questionnaire Santa!!
It had my wife and me laughing away.
