I play and design board games.
I am 1-2 dan rank in Go. UPDATE: I'm really out of practice. Perhaps I'm still there, but you never know.
I "read" games like literature. My "abstract fan" microbadge refers to the fact that I don't care how well a theme is integrated with the mechanics. It's all about how the game plays (remember: mechanics are what make up board games; NOT theme, unless you are an RPGer, which I am not). More important to me is the game's atmosphere
, a very vague term. Theme, mechanics, color choices, everything about a game makes up the atmosphere, and it is this which is my biggest "like or don't like" factor. However, I love all games because atmosphere is mostly not "good" or "bad" to me, but rather "interesting" or "fascinating," which generally means they fall into the "good" category.
So why so many high ratings? Simple: I love all games, and I don't buy games that I think I won't like.
The main reason why I don't write many reviews is that I don't get to play games with more than 3 players much.Top Ten
