"I hunger for the infinite game"
~ heck yeah, I'll play that --"Huizinga quoted a psychologist's definition of a game as 'a representative act undertaken in view of the impossibility of staging real purposive action.'"
- from "Arena" by John Pearson, Thames & Hudson (1973), pg. 152"As the age of information demands the simultaneous use of all our faculties, we discover that we are most at leisure when we are most intensely involved, very much as with the artists in all ages."
- from "Understanding Media" by Marshall McLuhan, McGraw-Hill (1964), pg. 301"No claim, however, is more certain than the one pain has on life. Where people are spared pain, social stability is produced.... [Yet] the individual is not fully free from pain in this joyful state of security.... The vessel, sealed off from pain's full flow, is filled drop by drop. Boredom is nothing other than the dissolution of pain in time."
- from "On Pain" by Ernst Jünger, Telos Press Publishing (2008 [orig. 1934]), pg. 13
What's the most precious resource you've got? It's not your health (or freedom, happiness, etc.): plenty of people purposely live in conditions they previously believed to be intolerable. There's only one reason they continue to persevere: to claim as much Time as possible.
Games Rating Scale*:
Was it worth my irretrievable Time (and/or =/> all other realistic uses of it)? = 10
Was it a waste of my irretrievable Time (and/or < all other realistic uses of it)? = 1
Mixed "Flawed Gems" and "Dirt Clods embedded with Gold Nuggets" = 5.5
*BTW: this scale maximizes my Time utilization, bringing it just within the 'worth it' measure."The playground of ideas is vast."
