The first serious board game I remember playing is Axis and Allies. My middle school history teacher taught it to us in an after school class, and my friend Rick and I got really into it. To this day, we still get together and play it occasionally, so it has a nice soft spot in my heart.
Then, in college, I was introduced to Settlers of Catan. I feel deep down that rabbit hole; we played every night. Someone brought Shadows Over Camelot instead of Catan once, and I realized the board game hobby was for me.
Since then, I've tried to dabble in everything. I played Warhammer 40k for about a year, but sold my army before Sixth Edition. I like to play good Euro's, but I have a hard time talking myself into their themes (so I don't get them to the table as often as I would like). I'm a sucker for theme and silly fun, but I do want there to be meat on the bones. My current favorite is Eclipse - what a game!
I enjoy listening to podcasts at work, and board game podcasts are some of my favorites. The Dice Tower, The Secret Cabal, Ludology, and the Plaid Hat Podcast are all amazing and great fun to listen to.
I like to collect maybe as much (or more than) I like to play. I enjoy the metagame aspect of thrifting board games and finding deals in auctions or on craigslist, so if you have any trade requests or thoughts, let me know!
As far as plays go, I start recording plays about halfway through January, 2013. I don't record plays of expansions; if I own it, assume I'm playing it!
I live in Seattle, but have roots in Michigan and South Carolina. If you're ever in Seattle, let's hang out and play!
