Married, 42-year-old dog-owner. Of those 42 years, I must have been playing games for 38 or more of them. Starting off with the standard family fare: Beetle Drive, Scoop! draughts, Monopoly (although my parents' set oddly had no houses or hotels. I was at secondary school before I played a game that included those!) and eventually chess and Scrabble. In my teens I was bitten by the RPG bug and so played a lot of D&D, Runequest and Traveller; at the same time maintaining an interest in historical wargaming, mostly Second World War and Ancients.
Boardgaming for me started off with strategic/operational level wargames (more interesting than tactical level, to me) and multi-player punch-ups like Kingmaker, Junta and Dune. The mid-90s saw the birth of CCGs and me getting heavily into Magic:the Gathering. Then, a few years ago, a friend gave me a copy of Settlers of Catan and I haven't looked back.
