My husband and I got into the gaming hobby largely due to the realization that with three younger children the cost of going out regularly was fairly prohibitive. As a result, we decided to invest instead in games that would allow us to have just as fun a time staying home and build up a library we could share with our children as well. On the whole, we can't justly argue that we saved all that much money through this decision, but it was as great as excuse as we could think to get some great games, so that's our excuse and we're sticking to it.
When we lived in Madison I had many more opportunities to go to the thrift stores and we loved it. Here in Central Wisconsin there are not as many places to go. So our thrifted games have really gone down but that makes every good find all the better.
I don't post on the weekly finds as writing is not really my thing but enjoy reading and thumbing all the great finds every week.
On the whole, we primarily select games that play well with two players as well as games that are accessible to younger children as well. A bonus of this is that we have learned exactly how cutthroat our sweet eleven year old daughter can actually be in certain situations.
