I am currently a stay at home mom - prior to that I was a practicing veterinarian for 11 years. Still miss being active in that profession, but am enjoying time with my kids! Some days, though ... a waiting room full of nervous Rottweilers would be a welcome change.
I joined the community in 2009 and have continued to have a blast sifting through all the interesting posts, pictures, and fantastic information that's available! I renewed my interest in boardgaming in late 2008 after purchasing Settlers of Catan on an Amazon Gold Box deal. It took me over a year to finally play SoC, but that purchase did prompt me to crack open our copy of Ticket to Ride that I'd bought years earlier for my "traniac" son who was finally old enough to play. That experience opened the floodgates and my family has spent untold hours enjoying many new boardgames since then. My kids have caught the bug along with me so most of my gaming time is spent playing with them - I consider it an investment in the future as (hopefully) they will progress to loving heavier, more adult games as they grow up. We have hopes that my husband will soon catch "the bug" too -- he is happy to play with us, but doesn't usually suggest games himself....yet. My kids (now 10 and 13 years old) are my primary gaming partners so most of what you'll see in my comments section relates to how well a game plays with them. We all dove into the hobby when they were 4 and 7 so comments go back to those ages too.
My avatar: The saxophonist from the California Raisins Jazz quartet (I was a saxophonist in high school) wearing a Cubs hat checkers token from my Cubs/Cardinals checker set. "Let's Play Two!" is a nod to the great Ernie Banks who was always ready to play another game - as am I. Cubsfan31 reflects my longsuffering devotion as a Chicago Cubs fan - the 31 is for Greg Maddux (best modern-era pitcher IMHO)and Fergie Jenkins. The Cubs are looking good for 2015 - here's hoping!
I look forward to reading more of everyone's contributions here - hopefully I'll have something interesting to say once in awhile too!
