I have always liked board games but I had always thought there should be more (better) games out there. For years I would try something new from the big box stores and was always disappointed. In late 2008 I was introduced to modern hobby games and it has changed my life. I finally found what I was looking for.
I was reluctant at first. I remember thinking "Carcassonne" I have never heard of it so it can't be any good. And even after I played it a few times I still carried that chip on my shoulder. It wasn't until my wife played it, and liked it, that I let myself like it. I saw it as something my wife and I could do together so I immediately bought the Carcassonne Big Box, found BoardGameGeek, and got completely sucked in. And the funny thing is that now Carcassonne is the one game my wife and I can't play together because it causes arguments (always the farms).
I purchased my first hobby games on 03/15/2009
My wife's top 10:
1) Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords – Base Set
2) Defenders of the Realm
3) Glory to Rome
4) Lady Alice
5) Love Letter
6) Thurn and Taxis
7) Discworld: Ankh-Morpork
