I posted the following in the "Let's see your face!" geeklist, so I decided to just add the information to my profile here.http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/52221/lets-see-your-fa...
Roborally is my favorite game. It's also one of the first games I bought when I started getting into this hobby. My user name is an apparently opaque reference to two of my nostalgia characters from video games, from Street Fighter II and Super Mario Brothers 2. I spent many happy hours playing those games growing up.
Of course, I usually played the Princess in SMB2, but KenPeach just didn't have the same ring to it when I made up the username for my old forum haunt, Build Your Own Arcade Controls or BYOAC.
After I did just that, I switched over to analogue board gaming because I was working with a developmentally disabled individual and needed some way to break through layers of communication challenges, including autism. We bonded over Munchkin, of all things, after I saw the cards online in 2005 and correctly assumed that he would find plenty of humor in the game. Prior to that, his gaming experience was limited to Risk, Uno, Monopoly, etc., although he had bought a used copy of Survive! from a thrift store because the cover art looked cool. The game didn't include instructions, unfortunately, so he had never really played the game.
We downloaded the rules for Survive!, taught him Roborally and we charged headlong together into the hobby of board gaming. It was quite an experience for both of us.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling and move on to the pictures.
This was back in 2007 in Ohio. I'm a proud daddy and husband.
This was last fall at Mt. Rainier, one of the most beautiful places on earth. We were on the short, family-length trail, but my daughter missed her nap.
So, this summer we will say goodbye to the Pacific Northwest and head back to the Midwest. My wife landed a professorial position at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. We also have a baby boy on the way, so these are exciting times.
