Games best played with ___ players:

I am keeping a list of some of my favorite games that are best with a certain number of players, as I've often found myself asking "Let's see, we've got X players, what's a good game for X?". Games that scale well are generally not on this list, unless it is kind of hard to find good games for that number of players.

Games I own but have never played and want to try out most:

On the subject of luck v. perfect information games:

I like games with a healthy dose of luck, but with enough meaningful choices to reward players for good game play and override the influence of luck on the outcome. I find that games with perfect information too often lead to analysis paralysis or a feeling that had you spent more time on your turns you could have done much better. Either way, usually I'd rather just roll the dice or draw and play some cards than stare interminably at the board in a min-max brain-burning loop.

The more you know, the more luck you will have. - Confucius

The winds and waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators. - Edward Gibbon

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca (or Oprah, take your pick)

A wise player ought to accept his throws and score them, not bewail his luck. - Sophocles

It is a great piece of skill to know how to guide your luck. Even while waiting for it. - A fortune cookie

He who does not expect the unexpected will not find it. - Heraclitus
