Hi to all board gamers out there!
First of all here's a song to hear while you read my sad and bitter story.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKjbYYpVHoc
My name is Michael and I've been playing board games for 5 years now. I started playing games as something different to do with my friends other than the usual stuff (movies, guitars, drinking, going out...).
I like heavy themed games
and the ones we call Eurotrasher
and that is games with euro mechanics with a good theme and a bit of luck too.
But all my respects go to all classic abstract games Chess, Go, Shogi. Nothing can be compared with them and their history with humanity.
Lately I have come to accept all the new modern abstract games (they are cool as hell and they add a little theme too).My favorite themes
for a game are Steampunk, Fantasy, Gothic, Horror, Medieval, Post-Apocalyptic, Alternative-History
. My favorite company
is Fantasy Flight Games
and some small ones.My favorite designer
is Christophe Boelinger , Vlaada Chvátil , Czarnè, Kevin Wilson and Christian T. Petersen , Adam Kałuża
I wanna have a small collection of boardgames and play them as many times as possible. My goal is to reach a collection of 100 games. Then I'm gonna stop buying. I am definetely not a collector and I don't wanna be one. Although the score besides says i own more than 100 games in reality only 40-50 are playable. There are promos, expansion and 2-3 really old games that i don't play them at all.
My target is still 100 games.SELLING MY GAMES
I really hate selling my games even when I am not happy with them or I am not playing them as often as I like. 2 or 3 times that I did it (selling) it didn't fit right. So why have i sold so many games so far (71 to be exact?)? When i started buying games i made some wrong choices also with the years and the experience i learned what i like mostly and to pass a game even if the price is really low.SOLO GAMING
Lately i fell in love with everything it has to do with solo gaming. I really like when a board game has an official solo variant. It is skyrocketing the possibility of playing the game more times than with a group.EXPANSIONS
I love love expansions. I prefer to buy an expansion to a board i already own and really like than buy a new game. Also a new expansion increases the possibilities of playing the same game more times.I LIKE
2 - Player games
Classic Abstract games (Go, Chess, Shogi)
Modern Abstract Games
Heavy thematical games based more on theme (Arkham Horror, Betrayal at house on the Hill)
Dexterity games (Crokinole, Subbuteo, Affentennis)
Solo games (LoTR LCG, Mage Knight, Robinson Crusoe, Gears of War, K2)
Long Games (TI3)
Negotiation Games (Battlestar Galactica)
Card Driven GamesI DON'T LIKE
Multi - Solitaire games
Games with really low interaction between the players (don't see the point in playing such a game)
Collecting Collectible Games (get some cards and play the game mate, don't waste all your money in it)
The Harvest Trilogy of Uwe Rosenberg
Games based on TRAINS (OK OK 1 or 2 are really good but cooome on a whole category of their own???)
15 GAMES THAT I REALLY LIKE THAT ARE NOT SO WELL KNOWN
Day & Night
Hera & Zeus
The Battle for Hill 218
The ClimbersI always hear music during a game
because it fills the long periods of silence when everybody is thinking what they're next move will be. I also enjoy a cup of coffee (OK OK many cups of coffee) during a game and of course i never say no to a good cold beer.
I love Loreena McKennitt's music. http://www.quinlanroad.com/
I am an RPG pen&paper player for years. White-Wolf mostly. I have a greater love for pen & paper RPG than I will ever have for a boardgame.
I have made an attempt to make a game of my own but I can't find enough time anymore. It's about The Count of Monte Christo and his escape from his prison. I really have to drug some friend with me into this or my game will never gonna see the face of the day.My dream is to find a job in Finland (or Sweden) and live there forever. My Hot 10
are games that I'm wanting to play but haven't.
