Like most people here, I grew up gaming. Monopoly
, Trivial Pursuit
, and dozens of others, with a little Axis & Allies
thrown in on the slightly heavier side. One of my brothers and I even designed and played a little role playing game out of cardboard and masking tape. I often asked for board games for birthdays and Christmas and was always disappointed when I got something like Sorry!
. I was aware enough to know there was a whole world of interesting games out there, quite out of reach of my thin wallet during my pre-employment years.
I fell off the wagon for a few years, but then rebounded when I got married and found that my wife, too, liked board games. We started picking up new games, mostly party games, left and right. And they were good games too. Apples to Apples
, Wise and Otherwise
, Catch Phrase!
and so on.
Since I recently discovered Euro games like Catan
, I've literally become obsessed with board games again. I've even started working on that game idea my brother and I came up with almost 20 years ago.
P.S. My avatar is a picture of Omar Sharif from a scene in Lawrence of Arabia. The badge makes sense if you've seen the movie.
