Dear BGG Secret Santa,
I have been a good guy all year and hope you find me on the nice list. My favorite time of the year is BGG Secret Santa and I make sure to be extra good all year so I can confidently let my Santa know I belong on the nice list. If you need more convincing then by all means let me know what I can do to prove my worth (I’m not against a Santa who enjoys a good bit of taunting fun).
I have completed my wish list with all the games I am interested in. I have left comments on each to give you an idea as to why certain things are on my list. I use my wish list slightly different than others in that I use the Wish list (1)-(3) to list the games I want in order from high to low (1)-(3). I use the wish list - (4) to list out all the expansions I want for games I don’t currently own. I do this so that it is clear that those expansions would not be able to be played without first receiving the base game. This does not mean that I want these least of all. In fact these expansions could be some of my most wanted, I just don’t have a way of playing them without the base game. With that being said, I don’t mind receiving these without having the base game first. Receiving the expansion may well be the last nudge I needed to get me to buy the game!
I haven’t kept up with ranking my games or listing my plays but I will try to update this as often as possible. If you are trying to gauge if I like a game I own and I haven’t ranked it feel free to use the Santa account to ask me about it. I am on BGG daily and will answer any questions you may have here in my profile.
As for my top ten and hot ten listed to the right in my profile, I have used them to further rank my games. Although they are already listed as 1-3 in my wish list, this allows me to number my top 20 games. My top ten are my most wanted games from 1-10 and my hot ten is my most wanted games from 11-20.
Despite my rankings, every single game/expansion on my wish list is something I do want and would love to receive from my Santa. I put it on my list because it is something I would like to have. I leave it completely up to you as to what you think I would like/deserve. The rankings are simply there as guidance in case you can’t decide otherwise.
I have tried to list a number of games with varying costs to make it easy to pick from. Although I prefer new games, I wouldn’t mind a lightly used game in which all components are included and the game is in great shape. I also give you free reign to give something not on my list if you think I would enjoy it. I ask that if you do, you look through my games and my profile to see if it would fit as my game group is quite finicky.
Most importantly have fun and enjoy the spirit of Christmas. There is no better time than Christmas, getting to spend time with family and friends (both in life and on BGG). Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.A little about myself...I’m currently at a place in my life where things are changing and moving at a rapid pace. I have just graduated in June of 2012 from the University of Cincinnati (Go Bearcats!!!) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After a couple of months of no luck finding a job, I had my current job fall in my lap. I couldn’t be happier with my job doing what I love. The degree is already starting to pay off. On top of all that I have my future to look forward to; a family, a house, more games….. The only thing that’s been constant for me here of late is my friends, family, and games. The best part; I get to enjoy them all together.
I don’t have a game group that I’m a part of. I don’t have any designated game nights I attend. What I do have is a group of family and friends who are willing, some more than others, to humor me and try all these new games I buy. And buy games I do! Growing up we always had the usual suspects; clue, monopoly, risk. It wasn’t until 2011 and my purchase of Ticket to Ride for the Xbox 360 that I really got into the “designer Board game” world. After playing Ticket to Ride digitally, I had to have the physical copy. Got the game for Christmas, everyone loved it, and the rest was history.
Ever since my acquisition of Ticket to Ride I have been buying/receiving games I see here on the Geek. Some have been hits others have flopped. As you can tell by my plays (I don’t list all my plays like I should), I found a real winner with Dominion and its expansions. Friends and family alike all love it and it remains a game that’s played often. Unfortunately, with my current gaming partners I’m limited to light/light medium weight games, but that doesn’t mean they are any less fun.
If I had to describe my favorite types of games, I would say they are light weight and variable. I wouldn’t mind heavier weight games but they would never see the light of day with my family and friends. It’s important to be able to give clear, concise rules quickly and get the game rolling. Variable games is great as it eliminates people from finding that one way to victory while also keeping the game fresh for many game nights. As far as theme, I don’t have a preference but it can impact the ability to get the game to the table (train games had zero appeal initially). A mechanic we have really come to love is deck building. It’s such a simple mechanic that can be altered to fit many different games and genres and is easily expanded and variable.
Other than games, I’m your typical 23 year old. I love watching and playing sports. I still play indoor soccer weekly and keep up with the NFL (Cowboys), NCAA (Bearcats), MLB (Reds), BPL (Sunderland, Arsenal), and most importantly, the US Men’s National Team. I’m a huge video gamer as well as a board gamer. I’m getting both the PS4 and Xbox One on day one (My Gamer Tag for both is Nonprofitgnome). I love the usual action/comedy movies and try and keep up with the current comedies on tv (Simpsons, South Park, Workaholics, Always Sunny). I’m a huge Marvel Geek. I own all the films on Blu-Ray, only wear marvel tees, and my prized possessions are my Thor Omnibus by Walter Simonson and my Astonishing X-Men Omnibus by Joss Whedon.
If you want to know anything else (can’t imagine what I haven’t covered; this is pretty much my life story) then just ask!
