I'm just a geek from Puerto Rico who enjoys life and science, books and games. I'm trying to finish a degree in Geology and after that I have absolutely no idea what I'll do. But I'll deal with it as it comes
I just recently got into board gaming by casually browsing my local Borders (pretty much the only place that sold decent board games around here). I started researching about board games online and found the Geek. When I realized that that Borders had some of the games that are most highly regarded on the Geek (Settlers, BSG, Ticket To Ride, SmallWorld, Carcassonne and many others) it was too late and they had closed all the Borders. Now the only place for me to find board games is online. I did manage to find a copy of the LotR Card Game and greatly enjoy it with my GF.
I ordered my first batch of games late this summer (2011) which included Carc, GOSU and Jaipur and have now a huge wishlist. I'm now in love with board games. I have been enjoying them greatly with the girlfriend and is now one of our favorite activities. The only sad part is that there doesn't seem to be much of a board game hobby out here. Most gamers are just content with MTG, my family is very difficult to get to the table and most of my friends don't care that much. But I'm slowly working on it. I'm even trying to organize a Game Night at a local comic store
All in all, I'm a happy geek in love with board games in a place that doesn't hold much love for them (and to think one of the most popular games shares the name with this place!).
Oh! and I now also have a bunch of ideas for board games, so hopefully I'll get to design a few in the near future!
