My ratings more or less follow Howard Tayler's movie rating system. 8-10 is above the "threshold of awesome," while 1-4 is below the "threshold of disappointment". (I don't play games I'm highly confident of hating, so my ratings skew a bit high.) I mostly rate in 0.5 increments, but I use 0.25 increments between 6.0 and 8.0 because of the crowding there.

I prefer games to fulfill the need for escapism. If they aren't abstract, then the theme should be exciting. I am uninterested in playing games about farming, for example, regardless of how well-executed they may be.
