My first introduction to a non mass market board game was at a weekend getaway with friends in early 2007. It started with Settlers of Catan. I was hooked. First it was the aesthetics of the game components, then the actual game play. On my return from the weekend getaway, I landed at a local game store (Gameology in Claremont). I purchased a few games and was off and running! I’m forever grateful to the owner at the time, Dave. He entertained me when I would stroll in his store every month and wonder what new game(s) I should add to my collection.
Then I discovered BBG. I had stumbled upon an entire subculture of board gaming! I remember feeling so overwhelmed with all the game titles, but after spending some time on the site, it all came together. My wallet has never been the same. My only regret is not being able to spend more time playing all the games on my shelf. I do my best to organize game evenings with friends at my home. On a side note- I’m forever indebted to the hobby since it truly helped my grandmother regain some of her mental cognition after her stroke in 2010.
Thank you to all the BBG contributors with your pictures, reviews, session reports, rules questions/explanations, etc. My personal gaming experience would not have blossomed without this great community that is so willing to share.
My board gaming adventures will be making a shift since I am now a Godmother to twin boys (born January 2014). Raising gamers!
