So, what kind of gamer am I? I keep a wishlist with comments for every game on there (comes in handy around birthdays & Christmas), and when you read through those comments, I'm sure you'll get a good idea about what I like in board- & cardgames. To give a small abstract: I'm all about theme and escapism in games. I'm not much into heavy economic games. I like stories
Themes I like specifically: anything Tolkien, but also trains, the old west, pirates, Cthulhu, biology, evolution, Star Trek.
In real life I'm a biology teacher at vocational level. This means I teach kids of 16yrs old and up, and train them to become professionals in practical biological research.
Unfortunately I don't have a regular gaming group. I play on an irregular basis with friends & family (mostly non gamers). For the more complex games, I rely on one friend with whom I try to get together as much as possible (which is not weekly and also pretty irregularly). Every once in a while I try to gather a small group of friends, but it's not easy. There is of course a FLGS in my town, but I haven't really found the right crowd there for me personally. SO.... I play 3/4 player games mostly with non gamers, who nonetheless can be talked into trying something like Dominant Species, and I have more of a gamer buddy for the more complex games, which are mostly 2 player games (MECCG, A Few Acres of Snow, War of the Ring, etc.). Recently a friend of mine expressed interest in the more complex games and I invited him to a game of MECCG (my all time favorite game), which he said he enjoyed! So... jeej!!
My girlfriend is not really a gamer but she's very open minded and will try almost any game with me. Together we enjoyed Robinson Crusoe or Bios Megafauna for instance. But really with her it's mostly family games also (like Pandemic, Tobago, A La Carte etc.)
