Although there was not much boardgames in Hong Kong, I started my hobby of boardgame in late 1960's and like most of us, my first three games were: Monopoly(HK version), Scrabble, and Risk.
My first "serious" boardgame was Acquire and my first war game was Blitzkrieg thanks to the Toys Department of the then Mitsukoshi Dept. Store - their buyer must be a fan of Avalon Hill! I kept building up my collection until the closure of the dept. store in 1990.
After that, Magic the Gathering renewed my interest as there was a spree of MTG tournaments in Hong Kong from 94-98 (and it died down for the same reason as in other parts of the world), and it left with me a huge MTG collection from Urza to Kamigawa...
I returned to "board"game in 2006 when a colleague of mine brought a copy of Settlers of Catan to the office (I was then working in a university campus), and then History of the World, and then the Board Game Geek.com - then I found my old hobby again in this new fashion.
