Now for more on my top ten (for those who care)...
01 Magic: The Gathering
Grew up playing this and don't see myself stopping. Love the variety of formats to enjoy this in with the limited formats being my favorite (Draft, Sealed, Cube).
02 Railways of the World
I greatly enjoy the economic aspects of this game and enjoy the ease of entry it has for new gamers, while still providing enough meat (tactics & strategy) for seasoned gamers.
03 Cosmic Encounter
A lot of variety, zaniness and interaction in this. Truly facilititates discussion and is just a very fun game that I don't ever see playing the same way twice.
04 Merchant of Venus
I used to play a game called Escape Velocity before and this game provides a similar feeling I had in that game (well at least the parts pertaining to trading goods). Really fun to explore and upgrade your ship as you go around trying to be the best space merchant out there.
05 Betrayal at House on the Hill
A very streamlined yet highly thematic 'dungeon' crawl-ish game. Has a lot of different scenarios and playfully employs a variety of horror themes (was the Cabin in the Woods before the movie came out).
06 Tales of the Arabian Nights
Would be a silly and random adventure game, but that Book of Tales makes this game. Choose your own adventure, then laugh, cheer or cry!
07 Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 1 - Team Asia & Legendary Asia
Ticket to Ride was one of my earlier games that got me into the hobby and has proved to be successful into getting my friends and family into gaming as well (apart from purchasing the base game as a gift, I gave my own copy on two separate occasions on the spot to family and friends). While I still love base Ticket to Ride, the Team Asia addition is a whole lot of fun. It's both silly and aggravating with how the information you can share with your partner is constrained.
08 Merchants & Marauders
Similar to my reasons for liking Merchant of Venus, I also like Merchants & Marauders because of a game I played in my past. And this game certainly does give the feeling of Sid Meier's Pirates! It's just missing the rock-paper-scissor duels, courting various daughters of each areas' governors and light wargame combat when taking over the different colonies/ provinces.
09 Catan: Traders & Barbarians
Like many others before me the Settlers of Catan was my gateway game. And like many others while I was once enamored with it, I find vanilla settlers to be more of a distraction than actual game. Traders & Barbarians changes that. It adds a lot of fun modules to be mixed into the base game and truly changes the experience and strategies. My favorite additions are the titled Traders & Barians scenario, the Bararian Invasion scenario and the Fisherman of Catan mini-addition.
10 King of Tokyo: Power Up!
Simple mechanics, super silly theme and special powers. A lot to love in this quick filler.
