I've always loved gaming. I remember playing King Oil
and Survive: Escape from Atlantis!
with my cousins back in my pre-teen days. I still kick myself to think I sold those games for 50 cents at a rummage sale. In 1984 I picked up the Dungeons and Dragons red box. That altered the course of my life forever.
I did role playing almost exclusively from 1984 to about 2005. My group fractured and split up, never quite getting over an ugly debate about the 2000 election. Between 1984 and 2005 I did play games like Axis & Allies
, but really only as fillers.
In 2007 I found a local group of board gamers in the Polyhedral Underground. What a great group! I haven't been the same since. My board game collection has exploded in these past few years and I am loving every minute of it!
I enjoy all sorts of games, from card games to quick playing Euros to long, involved and complicated war games to RPGs and table top miniatures. Essentially, if the game is fun and well designed I'll probably play it and enjoy it.
My avatar is from Logan's Run. In my opinion, this is one of the best science fiction stories around. The movie suffers from dated special effects (especially since Star Wars came out a year later) but the story line is excellent. I enjoy post apocalyptic movies and literature and I've used Logan's Run in courses I teach on the Humanities.
As for the Top Ten and Hot Ten, my Top Ten are my all time favorite games that I would agree to play before you even finished asking. My Hot Ten? I'll have to think about that.Trading
I really enjoy making trades on BGG, especially math trades. I've created some video tutorials on how to participate in math trades, so if you are interested in trading but don't know how, check out the videos.
For one on one trading I am instituting a new personal policy. I will no longer accept one word descriptions of games.
If I ask about the condition of your game and you say, "excellent" then I am going to ask for more information and possibly photos. I will ask about dings, dents, scuffs and scratches. I take pride in my games and the conditions they are kept in and when I trade, I always make sure to describe anything, anything
about that game that is less than mint. I have received too many "excellent" condition games that are not.Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
